Gordon Belcl, who has proved to be a very ambi- tious and willing worker, was chosen Editor-In-Chief, with his two able assistants, Erma Perry and Betty Fahnle. The task of Business Manager was very etiiciently handled by Herb Schuiling and his capable assistant, Marjorie Struik. Don Groelsema was chosen Literary Editor and Jack De Puit took care of the Sports Angle. The art work is credited to Louise Van Prooyen. Wlith the cooperation of all to secure tilm, Eugene Donelson, Photographer, and his as- sistant, Marilyn Van l-loeven were able to complete their job successfully. The typing work was left to Bonnie Evarts, Geraldine Groen and Eleanor Boersma. A number of problems arose because of war con- ditions, but after many headaches the staff has as- sembled a book which in years to come will bring to the students pleasant memories of the year 1945. The success of producing this M Orbit is cred- ited to the team work of the staif and to the kind assistance and advice of Mr, Zylstra. 25

Van Malsen, M. Van Hoeven. Absent: E. Thomas. . Portraying school life and its activities down to the most minute detail, this was the task of the Beacon statl. Under the able supervision of Mr. Welcli, faculty advisor, and Miss Haines, typing advisor, the Beacon cast its journalistic light throughout the high school and community as it completed one of the most successful years in its history. Although the editorial stat? of the publication was composed entirely of girls, sports and other masculine activities received the same splendid coverage which had character- ized the Beacon in previous years. Witli Elaine Thomas and Mathilda Otten serving as co-editors, the paper not only enlightened the students as to recent trends of romance about the school, but also presented the latest in sports, club news, interviews, exchange, and news from the music and commercial depart- ments. Helen Crull took over one of the most masculine jobs of the all-girl staff as she portrayed Viking sport affairs to the many Beacon readers. Betty Engstrom added a literary touch to the publication as editor of that department, while Lois Van Malsen, feature ecli- tor, and her staff of reporters, provided the students with plenty of current news hot off the presses . At the bottom of every school romance one could find Neda Runyon and Marge Struik -hastily scribbling down the details for the gossip column of the next Beacon. The job of keeping the school publication out of the red was handled very ably by Marilyn Van Hoeven, Beacon business manager. Miss Haines and her capable production stat? did a splendid job of composing and printing the paper which may truly be hailed as one of the best in Wlyomings history. 26 in , A
