CLASS HISTORY As l sit here chewing my bubble gum, fond memories of three years return. l can remember: September 17, 1945 - To the Wyoming County Community Hospital, bag and baggage, came thirteen ,frightened girls to begin three, long, tedious years of student nurse training - At this time we really began to live. The next day brought forth Pearson's old alarm clock, which since that day hasexpired, beckoning us to rise and attend those seemingly never-ending classes - Anatomy, Nursing Arts, Chemistry Lab with Campbell and her jet-propelled experiments attempting to blow us all to kingdom come, and Greenwald, our little giggler, always trying to find a way to keep the cotton stoppers from catching on fire when placed over the bunsen burner. But nevertheless, it was here we all began our start under the ever under- standing and helpful hints of a wonderful instructor, Miss Kimble. Studying - Oh yes! and those great days of cramming - those days will never be forgotten. With studying and floor duty we were really kept in a whirl. Studying in the evening was very dull except when a sailor happened to stroll past they Nurses' Honie. ' Hey Kids, remember the big day that was had by all before capping - especially our little Chaddock when she found out that the hopper really takes care of everything including dentures M Oh well Dot, they were good teeth once. That big day dates back to March 29, 1946 - we were no longer probies but, at last, after six months of hard work were freshman and were officially accepted into the School of Nursingj That summer passed too quickly - with picnics, hikes, vacations which ended all too soon, and finally working 2:50 - 11:00 and 11:00 - 7:00. September, 1946 saw Hackett and jesionowski wending their way to Buffalo General. The rest of the class was sad - two of our little lambs had gone forth to the first slaughter. After that a regime of gallant but petrified students made their weary ways to Meyer Memorial and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, Rochester State and Mt. Morris Tb. Sanitorium. Every one liked the latter, the patients were so nice, weren't they Pearson? How about that strict routine we had to follow at Mt. Morris. Open the door, wash your hands - close the door, wash your hands - feed a patient, wash your hands - Look, Mommy, no hands! Then came the day on fourth floor when we were sent to the Operating Room to watch a four hour Thoracoplasty.. Children's Hospital - Pearson and Olewnick returned two of the six most beautiful girls in the world, while the rest of us came back dog-tired. Fond memories are retained by most of us of Rochester State. Camisoles, Electric Shock Therapy, and the ever present worry of losing your keys to some patient. Remember the story Pearson, Olewnick, and Zimmerman tell of how they got a watermelon from some farmer who was frightened to death of them, thinking they were patients. Of course, I may be prejudiced in saying this but the work was really interesting and exciting to say the least and the end of this year will find me wending my weary way back to Rochester State. january, 1946, Geraldine Ronke left our humble establishment. She was the first to break up our happy family, and we hoped the last but we were wrong. I In March, 1947, Dorothy Greenwald left our group, but not to get married or so she said, but june fourth of that year was a different story and now we've all become Aunties' to Gary Lee Rissrnger. , Following in Dot's footsteps joan Drennan left us in April to become Mrs. james MacArthur and she, too, presented us with a nephew. We miss you kids an awful lot but we know you are both very happy and honestly that's all that matters. About this time the first Little Willie poem blossomed forth: Little Willie with his curls and sashes Fell into the grate and was burned to ashes Now the room is growing chilly , But no one wants to stir up Willie. , Drinkwater, Dusing, Chasey, and Hackett returned from State in February and at last our family was together again. True to her word Mrs. Smith threw a party at her home for us. Our sincerest thanks to you Smitty - we really had a wonderful time, even if Jessie did get beat at pinochle, which when you come right down to it, isn't the least bit unusual. ' ' At this time we would like to stop in our reminiscence to say thanks to our two wonderful house- mothers, Mrs. Foist and Mrs. Werner. We will never forget all that you two have done for us, especially those delicious brownies and chocolate cakes that we were almost never without. Our only regret is that we can't take you with us. Now as our three years training draws to a close, and graduation is just around the corner, we can honestly and truly say we have really lived. I6
