THE SENIOR HISTORY Our dearly beloved Senior Class started its colorful saga one bright morning the September of 1941. Yhere were twelve geniuses (or would be geniuses) skipping happily on their way to spend their first day in old W. H. S. Some were skipping, while others were not so anxious to add their brilliance to the class so were being dragged by the ear by an adoring mother. After reaching school, their one and only thought was how to start their world famous tactics used in tormenting the poor, bedraggled teachers. They suc- ceeded in doing just that on that first day (and have been doing so ever since) by various methods to numerous to mention. Those who started us off ( and drove most of the teachers off, too) were: Shirley Belford, Lila Burke, Joan Sayre Brawner, Harriet Byrd, Mary Chowning, Juanita Durham, Gwendolyn Hooper, Gabe Hunter, Harry Marshall, Donald McMinn, Jimmy Snowden and Monroe Young. Sandra Best from Mena, John Charles Streeter from Montrose and John Young from Earle heard of us and joined our gang in the second grade. In the third grade we increased by three: namely, Norma Lloyd from Cherry Valley, Jim Foster from Harris Chappel and Gilbert Thomas from Forrest City. John Foster from Harris Chappel, Joyce Holleman, Logan McMurtry from Heights Chappel and Larry Fisher from Pittsburg, Penn, graced our school in the fourth grade. In the fifth grade we saw four new faces, Othel Jones from Hickory Ridge, Thelma Sullivan from Weiner, Johnny Twaits from Cherry Valley and Della Urfer from Hickory Ridge. In the sixth grade our fame had really spread to the far corners! We were joined by Charlene Cudd from Oklahoma, Jimmy Caldwell, Maxine Burton from Rolfe, Freddy Mohr from Mcblroy and Harry Marshall returned to us from Memphis. In the seventh grade we added seven new names to our roll. They were: Betty Jo Brock from Hamlin, Barbara Crawford from Harris Chappel, Betty Henderson from Lansing, Michigan, Cleo Mauppin from Antioch, Rodney and Walter Shaw from McElroy and Betty Tarbutton from McElroy. The eighth grade added six new names to our growing roll. Juanita Brawner from Mebane, James Gowen from Ellis Chappel, Evelyn Thomas from Antioch, Lucille Speer from Jolly School, F. L. Lawson from McElroy and Herman Ballman from Rolfe. Our Freshman Year began with six new additions. Camelia Andreae from North Little Rock, Christopher Cox and Arlene Chrisco from Mebane, Robbie Henson from Charleston, South Carolina and Shirley Ziegenhorn from Mebane. We lost John Charles Streeter. In our Sophomore Year we rested and just added two members. Ann Hinkle from Adkins and Willey Middleton from Monncello. Joyce Holleman returned to us from Baxter Seminary and Doyle Kixon from Hickory Ridge. John Charles Streeter came back to us from Monroe, Louisana. In our Junior Year we increased by three: Bobby Dennis from Forrest City, Bennie Sue Parker and C. W. Gibson from Tranquility, California. During our Senior Year we gained five new members and lost four. Betty Davis from Vanndale, Talmadge Doss from Little Rock, Shirley Niermeyer from Memphis, Willard Cummings and Joan Matthews were our gains. Our losses were: Bennie Parker, C. W. Gibson, Catherine Lindley and Paul Swindle. Now, we, the Senior Class of 1953, have come to the end of our journey through school-Graduation. Graduation, the climax to a wonderful period in each of our lives. Our wish is that the future will bring as many pleasant experiences as we have had in the past and that it will bring luck and happiness to eacty and every one of us.
