CLASS PROPHECY I m on my way to that fabulous c1ty of Las Vegas As the propellors of thxs huge TWA sprn around they seem to stng You re gorng to have fun I sat back rn my seat and let out a heavy srgh and m my mtnd I trred to vrsualrze how each ofthe class members of 56 would look after ten years As the plane gltded down the runway I wondered whrch of my old frrends would meet me Stepprng off the plane I spotted Sharon Metsel 1n the crowd wavrng Runnrng down the plank I could see Sharon hadn t changed much except she was more mature and prettrer We halled a cab and were on our way to the famous Sands Hotel where all of us were to stay The Sands Hotel was beautrful and our room was large cheerful and so full of brrghtness I loved lt r1ght away Since tt was qutte warm we showered and changed rnto our sw1mm1ng su1ts Whale domg thrs Sharon told me she was a pubhc relanons drrectress for the hotel She loved her Job she told me smoe she was always meet1ng people and mak1ng new acquamtanoes all the trme It was Sharon who arranged everythmg for the class reumon and she really had a wonderful excursron planned At the pool, a hvely group was congregated Lookmg closer I recogmzed Nancy Thompson Moreland and Claude Moreland Claude IS a rn1n1ster and Nancy 1S happy bemg h1s wrfe and the mother of therr three lovely daughters Nancy told me all about the g1r1s who were home wrth therr grandmother Settmg at the edge of the pool w1th therr feet danghng rn the water were Patsy Hamrrck Qual Krnnamon Barbara Mount Nancy Parker and Shlrley Partm Each one gave me a br1ef1ng on thelr present status Patsy Opal and Nancy were marrled to brothers Barbara lS chref bookkeeper for a leadtng manufacturmg company 1n Chtcago and Shrrley IS a governess for a wealthy F lorrda famlly We chatted for awhrle then Sharon told us that a tour of the c1ty was next on the agenda As we walked back to our rooms we met more of the class of 56 who were just arrtvmg Judy Young an alrhne stewardess for the TWA and Burton Conklm prlot on the same plane were the f1rst ones we spotted They had just arrlved from a fhght from New York and had a few days free for the reumon Also rn the group were Robert Burdrck who owns hrs own apphance store Charlene Catton housewrfe and mother of two Darlene Cass a dress desrgner Jack Heuer a Greyhound Bus Company Executlve and Bob Noe cartoomst for the Chrcago Da1ly News We gabbed for a few rmnutes whlle we were go1ng to our rooms to freshen up a b1t Whrle we were gone on our tour some of the men who had arrrved qurte early the day be fore got back from vrsmng some old at0m1C bomb experrmental sues Dressed rn therr western garb one could sttll tell they were Jerry Hochstatter successful daxry farmer Robert Stout one of the US s top archrtects andB1ll Patterson who ts head professor of electrontcs at the Umversxty of Ilhnors A few hours later we arrtved home from our tour lt was a wonderful tour and now we are go1ng to eat supper and put on our best clothes for the outdoor pavrhon An all gtrl orchestra IS playxng and some of our old friends were mcluded Nancy Alvey Roberta Puyear and Sarah Wyatt Next morntng all of us went down tothe tram depot to meet the rematnmg members who were just arrtvmg. Ftrst off the tra1n was Joan Sapp prrvate nurse Gordon Jarvts coach of our own home town hrgh school and Joyce Dean Schroeder Taggtng along behmd was Jtm Cruse who owns a fleet of gas statrons throughout Illmors and Max Baker chref engrneer advrsor for the Ilhnols Htghway Department Lookrng about me I decrded that the class of 56 had been successful both rn personal hfe and busrness because they were happy And now we re off to a rodeo and more good t1mes that come wlth bemg together , . . .
