The representatives also act as guides for speakers on Know Your Job Day. One of the most important projects on which the council has worked is the establishment of a Code of Ethics for which the student body voted. Success of this code will depend upon the desire of the students to follow it. For their part in making this another successful year at Wyandotte, the Student Council, its sponsor, officers, and members deserve much credit. We want to wish much suc- cess in the future to the new sponsor, Mr. Dewey Bernard. 4 condom 66444 Uffdom By sharon Korte A bumper crop of 800 sophomores began their be LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Lester Cross, Charlene Crane, Carolyn Birge, Bill Kline and Bill Young Taking a very active interest in all events around Wyandotte this year was the Junior Class of 665 students. The Girls' League is the largest social organization at Wyandotte, for every girl who enrolls here automatically becomes a member. In the fall, the Girls' League spon- sored an assembly designed to introduce the clubs and activities of Wyandotte to everyone. Following this was a picnic scheduled to be at Loose Park, but because of weather conditions it was held at school. The Christmas Formal at the American Legion Memorial Ballroom, mixers, and the Mother-Daughter banquet in the spring were outstanding events sponsored by the Girls' League. A new event, Qui- verian catch up, intended to obtain the last autographs from the senior class, was introduced this year. The Christmas decorations in the auditorium, and orientation for next year's Sophomore students were a part of the Council's activities. Led by Elaine Haines, president, Cindy Vaughan, vice- president, Gail Geiger, secretary, Marilyn Mahale, treasurer, and the other members of the council, every event proved to be a success. The club is ably sponsored by Miss Barnett. Assisting her are Miss Cook, Miss Hughes, Miss Fogel- strom, Mrs. Hutton, and Miss Cosner. These clubs are composed of girls interested in furthering their diving and swimming abili- ties, and membership is obtained by tryouts. The Splash Club consists of the more ex- perienced swimmers, and the members of the B Club become Splash Club members after one year. The Splash Club tries to become more skilled in the synchronized phase of the sport, which is combining strokes and stunts to form rhythmic patterns in the water, sometimes swimming to music. Each club meets once a week during the fall and spring months, and each club works on Life Saving and Water Safety Instruction as an annual project. A Swim Show is presented bi-annually and is always an outstanding event attended by many people and enjoyed by all. This year, the club's Swim Show was called the Sea Swimposium. With the help of the Art Club, the Printing Department, the Cus- todians, Miss Hill, and the hard-working swimmers, the show was a success both nights it was performed, November 21 and 22 ' The officers of the Splash Club ate: presi- dent, Eugenia Mangelsdorfg vice-president, Judy Hubbard, and secretary-treasurer, Pat McGinnis. Debating the above proposition this years debate squad, al- though having a somewhat slow start, had a very successful season. It began as they left, eager and determined, for the opening tournaments at Russell and Washington. Although unsuccessful at these tourneys the squad sent a group of novices to take first at North Kansas City. No luck was in store for the teams at Topeka but the following week was a three-tournament week-end and Wyandotte managed a second place at Olathe fnovicej and a third place at Pittsburg. More grim and more determined than ever, they traveled to Salina, William Chrisman, North Kansas City, and Shawnee Mission for four more tournaments. Although disappointed in these meets, their wonderful team spirit received great reward, for now the winning streak was on. Many long and laborious hours of study and practice have gone into this year's proposition, Under the capable direction of Coach Leonard Jensen the thirty-nine debaters took part in 323 rounds of debate, winning 213 and losing 110. The Bulldogs obtained the Sunflower League Championship and the City title along with a high ranking in state. A big bulk of the Bulldogs load was carried by co-captains Gib Wilson, fullback and Dave Hills, center. After three long weeks of hard practice, the Canines tallied two touchdowns to down the invading Central Eagles 13 to 6 in the season's traditional opener. After a tough pull through the first half of the game, jack Rogers intercepted a Central pass in the third quarter and ran 65 yards for the first touchdown. Later, Al Kohler carried the football to the two yard line where Gib Wilson charged through Ccntral's line for a second touchdown. Dave Hills collected 18 tackles which was high for the game and also was an individual high for the season in one game. Paul Hester, jack Rogers, George Redden, and Gib Wilson followed Dave in the tackle department. For the second victory of the season the Bulldogs defeated the Washington Wildcats 14-6 which again saw Jack Rogers and Gib Wilson carrying the scoring load. These two boys were aided by Nolen Ellison, -lim Taylor, and Al Kohler in the passing department and Al Sheley on the ground. Gib Wilson, Dave Hills, George Redden, and Gene Dempsey led the defensive game. The Bulldogs came back after being down 13-0 to defeat Leaven- worth 20-13, playing a great second half. Gib Wilson scored two touchdowns this time and Tom Kerr did a bang up job as he scored the other touchdown for the Canines. This homecoming game made the third straight victory for Wyandotte. The Wyandotte gridsters showed the Shawnee Mission Indians what a strong defensive line they had by keeping the Indians scoreless through all four stanzas of the game, wnining 7-0 for the second Sunflower League victory. Tom Kerr scored the lone touchdown of the game as he jumped through a hole made by Dave Hills, John Denesha, and Gary McNerney. In Tom's 39 yard run it looked as though he was going to be stopped several times but hard running kept him going. Although not in the scoring column this time, Gib Wilson was the other work horse on offense as well as a big defensive cog. Tony Marquez intercepted an Indian pass on the first play of the game from the line of scrimmage to start off a good defensive night for the Bulldogs. Dave Hills, Paul Hester, Earl Cowher, and Gene Dempsey spearheaded the defense. Proving to be much too strong, Wyandotte took an easy 46-6 victory from the Argentine Mustangs. This was Fathers' night and the boys pleased their Dads as Gib Wilson, Nolen Ellison, Ron Smith, Tom Kerr, and Al Sheley all scored touchdowns. Wilson led the scoring with three touchdowns and the rest had one apiece. As the reserves played most of the game, Bill Kline, Bill Prime, and Ron Smith led the defense. Bob Golub and jack Rogers kicked two conversions making victory number five. Being defeated by Topeka's Trojans last year, the Bulldogs made a great comeback, winning 18-12 for the sixth straight victory and the Sunflower League crown. With this victory, Wyandotte was also ranked high in the state. Gene Dempsey, Dave Hill, Gary McNerney, Earl Cowher, and George Redden set up a strong forward wall on both offense and defense. Gene Dempsey, John Denesha, and Larry Standefer played one of their best games on offense. Wyandotte set up their first touchdown when jim Taylor threw a sharp pass to Bill Emery which covered 21 yards. Wilson scored the first of his three touch- downs of the night when he went 16 yards for the score. Dave Hills and Paul Hester showed the way on defense in tackles. By defeating the highly rated Ward Cyclones in our seventh victory, the Canines took the City Championship. This was Wyandotte's 13th victory over the Cyclones in the last 14 years. Gib Wilson again led the scoring parade with three touchdowns. He was followed by quarter- backs jim Taylor and Nolen Ellison each with one. On offense Al Sheley and Gib Wilson showed the way on the ground, while Jim Taylor added his touch on the offensive drive as he hit three out of four pass attempts for 40 yards. On the receiving end of these passes was Bill Emery who made two good catches. The Ellismen held Ward scoreless through the game on a strong defense led by Dave Hills, Paul Hester, George Redden, Burly Jenkins, and Al Sheley. The final score was 31-0, making it the seventh victory of the season without defeat. To finish the season, the Canines gave lawrence High School their toughest football game of the season. The number one team in the state scored two quick touchdowns in the first quarter. The last three quarters the Bulldogs held the Lions scoreless as they tallied one touch- down on a Gib Wilson plunge from the one yard line. Bob Golub added the extra point. Tom Kerr, Gib Wilson, and Al Sheley lighted the way on offensive ground gaining. jim Taylor had 21 yards in passing for the night. Burly Jenkins was the defensive leader for the game as he made 16 tackles, second high for the season in an individual game, recovered one fumble, and bloclted an extra point try. Dave Hills, Paul Hester, George Redden, and Gib Wilson also helped spearhead the defensive attack. Don Spear, who is on the kick off team, made the tackle on all four of the Wyandotte kickoffs. The final score of the game was 13-7 in favor of Lawrence which gave the Bulldogs their first loss of the season and a sparkling 7-1 record. Ed Ellis can well be proud of his team this year as they steadily improved with each passing game. Dave Kendal formed an excellent line for head coach Ellis, while Ray Cox and Charley Sheffield assisted him in building the team also. There are many factors which go into making up the success of the Bulldogs this year. A few of these factors arez. the very best of coaching, the statistics which were ltept by Charles Sheffield, and the films of the games which the boys saw after each game. Not to be left out is the spirit, hustle, and desire shown by the boys all season. The senior manager was Bob Tietz, who did a fine job. Congratulations are in order for the new co-captains for 1958-59. They are Gary McNerney, Paul Hester, and jim Gill. The following boys were chosen on the various all-star teams: All state first-Gib Wilson, fullback, Second team-Dave Hills, center, Third team-Gene Dempsey, tackle, Sunflower League first team-Gib Wilson, fullback, Dave Hills, center, George Redden, end, Gene Demp- sey, tackle, Paul Hester, guard, Honorable Mention-Gary McNerney, tackle, Jim Taylor, quarterback, Tom Kerr, halfback, Jack Rogers, halfback, All City first team-Gib Wilson, fullback, Dave Hills, center, George Redden, end, Earl Cowher, end, Gene Dempsey, tackle, Second team-Gary McNerney, tackle, Paul Hester, guard, John Denesha, guard, Jim Taylor, quarterback, Honorable Mention-Al Sheley, half- back, Tom Kerr, halfback, Jack Rogers, halfback, Burly jenkins, cen- ter, All Area team-Tom Kerr, halfback, Dave Hills, center, Gib Wilson, fullback, George Redden, end, Gene Dempsey, tackle. Reserve Season Enthusiasm, the spirit to win, good sportsmanship, and the desire to learn are the traits of the H Reserve Gridsters. They ended the season undefeated with a 6-0 record. It was the first undefeated season since 1948. Four of the six games the team held the opposition score- less. The best game of the season was with Topeka's Troians when the Bullpups downed them 6-0 on Topeka's field. The Reserve Team was coached by Mr. Charles Sheffield. The two returning lettermen, Bob Baker and Tom Cun- ningham, were very helpful in building the team with their times in many of the meets being almost identical. On the IVZ-mile course at Victory Hills Country Club, Wyandotte took spots 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the first five places. The Wyandotte joggers came out on top with a 12-27 decision. Low score wins. Run- ning 7:41, Bob Baker won over teammate Tom Cun- ningham to take first. Tom ran 7:42. Taking places 4 and 5 were Rogers, 7:53, and Babick, 7:55. Dan Brewer led the Reserves to a 10-30 victory. Baker's winning time was 7:36 with Cunning- ham right on his heels. Dan Brewer capped 6th place and Charles Woods 8th place. In the Reserve meet with Topeka, Wyandotte took the first 5 places for a 15-30 victory. On October 11, 1957, W'yandotte was runner-up in the Cross- Country meet with Washington, Topeka, and Shawnee Mission. At this time, Washington won their first Sunflower League Title in his- tory by taking the meet which was over the 2-mile course at Shawnee Country Club. Scores were: Washington 14, Wyandotte 38, Shawnee Mission 41, and Topeka 53. The new B Team record was set in a meet with Washington by Ewald Ulmer. The former record was 8:22 and Ulmer's new record was 8:01. The speedsters took 4th with 64 points in the Shawnee Mission Invitational as the Indians won their own meet with 27 points. Wash- ington 29, Haskell 42, Topeka 77, and Olathe, 87. Wyandotte Hillclimbers placed 4th in the Emporia Invitational October 24 with 57 points. Wichita East was first wtih 11 points, S. M. was second, Wichita North was third with Emporia being fiftli. Baker, Cunningham, and Brewer were the three high for the Bull- dogs. In the reserve meet, Wyandotte was third behind Wichita East and Shawnee B Teams. Boys who placed for local joggers were Woods, Togers, Ulmer, Spurgeon, and Carraher. The Harriers finished high in the last three meets. They placed 4th in the last two big meets. At the Regional meet in Lawrence, Wyandotte placed behind Haskell, Wash., and S. M. and again at the Haskell Invitational Meet, behind Haskell, Wash., and S. M. The Wyandotte joggers took 6th in the State Meet November I6 held at Topeka. Wichita East won the State Title while Haskell placed 2nd. Wyandotte had a 98-point total. East had 27 points to Haskell's 44. Placing ahead of the Bulldogs were Washington, Shawnee Mission and Wichita West. West nosed Wyandotte out by only one point. Cunningham finished low for the bulldogs with place 14. Baker was next with the number 24 spot. Brewer number 29, Wood finished number 31, and Rogers with number 36. , We're sure Coach Swaim and all Wyandotters are very proud of thc Cross-Country boys who certainly had a most successful season. Co-captains: Cunningham and Baker win dual meet. Page 63 .Sfafe 5 Who said Wyandotte couldn't take state? Whoever did was mighty wrong, because Coach Shublom and his crafty Canines had other ideas. In the first game, Wyandotte's Bulldogs took the only loss of the season from Ward. Ward only held a small lead of 11-9 at the first quarter mark but they jumped to a quick 17-9 lead in the second quarter. Then thu Bulldogs showed their power and quickly chopped the lead to 19-Ii, but Ward then went ahead 23-17. Phil I-Ieitmeyer and Jim Lugar led the Canines with 17 points apiece. Nolen Ellison added 11 points to thc total. The game finally ended S2-47 Ward. This first game did not discourage the Shublom canines for on the next Friday, Wyandotte swept past Pem-Day S9-46. To make the record 2-1, Wyandotte came out on top of a 50-33 score while beating Ottawa. The top Bulldog for this game was Phil Heitmeyer on offense scoring a grand total of 23 points. jim Lugar led in the rebounding for the night with a total of eight. Wyandotte also scalped the Southwest Indians 52-32. This was the second Missouri team the powerful Bulldogs knocked by the wayside. The next Friday night they swept past Washington, 44-36 for a first Sunflower League victory, jim Lugar led the team with I4 points, Phil Heitmeyer running a close second with 12 counters. Bob Baker had 6 and provided the outside support shown by champions. Through most of the game Wyandotte held a 14 point lead but Washington put on a 6 point rally to close the game. For a fifth victory the Wyandotte Bulldogs outclassed the Topeka Trojans 37-31, using a slow offense and a tight defense. Topeka was ranked thc second best team in the state but this did not bother Phil Heitmeyer who scored 15 points for high-point honors of the night, Nolen Ellison dropped 7 in as Bob Baker and jim Lugar both scored six. The game, all through showed the true team work of the Wyandotte Bulldogs. january 17-18 marked the dates for the Wyandotte Invitational Tournament. With victories over Parsons 61-305 and over Wichita North 41-33, Wyandotte took their own trophy. Bulldog Phil Heit- mcyer notched 26 points against Parsons and 18 against North. The battle with North was a tough one, for in the fourth quarter the Redskins only trailed by Z points. The Canines were slowed down by the loss of Bob Balter in the last quarter. Baker played a fine floor game, but after he was injured, he was ably replaced by Bill Gunderman. The Canines played a fine defensive and offensive game both nights. We believe they are true Champs. With great poise on january 24, the Bulldogs waxed the Shawnee Mission Indians I3-37. On this night the top scoring Bulldog was Jim Lugar, who scored 20 points. Phil Heitmeyer hit 14 and Carle- ton Kleitz dropped in eight points. The roars from the Wyandotte crowd were scalp-um team. The next night the Bulldogs were raring to go again. And go they did, beating West Plains 49-42. The Missouri team towered over the Canines in height but not in team work. Come on Team! We're with you! FIGHT! Yes, fight is what the Bulldogs did. Argentine Mustangs lost out in the race completely. Wyandotte won by many laps making the final score 68-31. Nolen Ellison notched 18 points while Jim Lugar ran a very close second with 16 points. The next night the Wyandotte Bulldogs were out to battle the Leavenworth Pioneers but it went to the records as an easy victory for the Canines, with a final score of 74-40. Bulldog Phil Heitmeyer scored Z1 points and Bulldog jim Lugar made a fine match for him. Hey Bulldogs, here come the Washington Wildcats. They came all right but not a scratch was gained by the Bulldogs. Defeating the stall type of ball the Wyandotter's ended the score 40-24. Yeah Bull- dogs, another victory! by Gayle Carpenter On February 14 and 15, the Canines slipped in two more victories beating Topeka 64-41 and North Kansas City 54-SS. Say Trojans, what happened to your mightly army? Yep, you guessed, it was an easy victory for the Bulldogs against Topeka. That height advantage just didn't seem to affect our Shublom boys. North Kansas City gave us our biggest scare as they led the game most of the time before falling in the last minute. Richard jenkins added the final shot from the outside which put Wyandotte ahead S4-53. The cry for a basket from the Wyandotte followers was answered. Traveling over to Shawnee Mission Indian territory were the Bull- dog teamsters and their followers. We want a basket, Boom! Booml Boom! Boom! is the way they went in, too, for another victory for the mighty Bulldogs, Nolen Ellison and Bill Gunderman pulled the game out in an overtime each hitting four points and making the final score 41-JS. Lawrence Lions lost their kingdom as the Bulldogs quickly moved out to a 11-6 first period lead. Phil Heir- meyer was high man on this battle night with 10 other men right behind him. Closing the season the Bulldogs took the'wind out of Ward Cyclones 51-50. A very much welcomed victory for the teamsters. Nolen Elli- son, Jim Lugar, and Phil Heitmeyer led a balanced Wyandotte attack as they hit 14, 13 and 12 point respectively. Richard jenkins hit ig and Bill Gunderman 1, to round out the Bulldog scoring. Yes, we're from Wyandotte, couldn't he prouder. Yeah, team. Let's take regionals. In the regionals, the Bulldogs met some of the best teams in the state. Again the bulldogs out-classed the stall type of ball against the Washington Wildcats, li-E. One more game and we're regional champs. Regional Champs was our title after that one last game, too. A great game was played by both teams but as the saying goes, The best team always wins, and Wyandotte beat Ward S9-45. Look out Manhattan, here we come. All during the tournament, the Bulldogs were cold from the field and they had a hard time getting started the first two nights but after they got started no one could stop them. The first night Big Red played the Dodge City Demons. This was a great defensive game and the Bulldogs ended the score 50-26. The second night the Bulldogs chased the El Dorado Whldcats around a tree, making a final score of 46-29. The Wildcats melted like butter in the crafty Canines hands. The last and championship game was a fight to the end but the Bulldogs had beaten Topt-ka's Trojans twice before so they had to do it just one more time. One more time is all it took as the score ended up 48-46g Wyandotte State Champions. Yes, indeed, a very deserving team they were and a mighty fine hard working bunch of champions. Phil Heitmeyer and Nolen Ellison, two of the finest basketball players ever, were placed on the ALL STATE Squad. jim Lugar was listed on Second Allstate Team. All the team titles given to the greatest team ever were: City Champs, Sunflower League Champs, Regional Champs, and, of course, State Champs. Congratulations Boys! Guided by Coach Del Norris and seven returning lettermen, the swimming team looked forward to an exceptionally fine year. Thirteen meets were scheduled and the team ended the season with a 9-3-1 record. The best record since 1952. The 1957-1958 swim season was opened with the intersquad meet. Snyder-Calwell headed one team and 'Bishard-Leger led the other. The team of Snyder-Calwell defeated Bishard-Leger 50-35. For the first time since 1950, the Varsity beat the Alumni 45-40. This showed a potentially balanced power team. Wyandotte's Waterdogs began the conference season with a win over Shawnee Mission 49-37. Mike Calwell, swimming the 200 yard freestyle, set a new meet and school record with the time of 2:06.5. This was .7 of a second off the best time in the state. Four meet records were broken and one was established. Meeting the traditionally strong Coffeyville swimmers, the javatown men slipped past our fin men 50-36. Mike Calwell picked up a double victory in the 40 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle events. Swimming against Wentworth, the Bulldogs picked up victory num- ber two, with the score of 45-39. Ron Marsh scored 200.2 points in diving and Jay Peck won the backstroke event in 1:l4.3. Leading the win was Ed Fischer who won the 100 yard butterfly and was on the medley relay team. After a five year drop-out, the Emporia team returned to compe- tition against Wyandotte. The Bulldogs swam to victory number three, 57-39. The Bulldogs again rolled over Wentworth 49-36. The reserves gained this victory by winning both the relays. Powerful Wichita East invaded Wyandotte, sporting an dnblemished win record. The determined Bulldogs never gave up and the meet score was tied 43-43. Wyandotte was the only team to blemish their win- ning record all year. Wichita West proved to be another Wichita power and handed the Bulldogs their second loss of the season. In Wyandotte's efforts, Mike Calwell set a new record in the 120 yard individual medley with 1:18.7. He also tied his own record in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:06.3. The final score was 44-42, Wichita West. The first Sunflower League swim meet to be held was easily won by the Bulldogs over Topeka and Shawnee Mission. Wyandotte gathered 71 points for first place, Topeka was second with 45, and Shawnee Mission was last with 35 points. Terry Lanaman broke an old school record in the 40 yard freestyle, as he raced in the time of :19.1. The Bulldogs took 8 out of 10 firsts and finished second in the two they lost. Wyandotte swam to an easy victory over Emporia, 55-31, for the sixth victory of the year. The swimmers took seven firsts, including both relays. Topeka again fell to W'yandotte 58-37 at Topeka's new pool for the seventh victory of the season. In doing this, the Wyandotte swimmers broke 5 of our school records, 5 pool records, and bettered 3 of To- peka's school records. Louie Shelleda set a new 400 yard freestyle record in 5:22.9 while Bob Kent went 1:03.8 in the 100 yard butter- fly. Mike Calwell reset his 200 yard freestyle mark at 2:03.7. The Waterdogs gained second best time in the medley relay at 1:30.9. Coffeyville holds the record at l:30.5. Wichita West won the last relay by two-tenths of s second to pull a win over Wyandotte 49-37. Terry Lanaman set a new school record in the 40 vard freestyle as he swam in :1B.7 Willard Snyder, Larry Bishard, Mike Calwell and Terry Lanaman set a new freestyle relay mark in l:l8.2 to erase the record set in 1957. The Bulldogs easily won the triangular meet over Wichita North and Wichita Southeast. Wyandotte scored 631f2 to take first, Wichita North scored 54 for second, and Wichita Southeast took third with 35 lf2. Mike Calwell reset his individual medley record at 1:l7.5 during this meet. By scoring the most points ever totaled during dual swim competi- tion, the Wyandotte swimmers easily outdistanced Kemper, 67-19. Terry Lanaman set a new state record of :18.7 in the 40 yard free- style event at the state meet, taking Wyandotte's only first to lead the Bulldogs to fourth place with 26 points. Wichita East won the meet with 63 points. Mike Calwell won second in the 400 yard free- style and third in the 200 yard freestyle. Bob Kent took third in the 100 yard butterfly, while Don Shone placed second in the 100 yard backstroke. Wyandotte also took third in the medley relay. The 1957-1958 swim season thus came to a close, and the Coach and team have produced a record that everyone can equally be proud of. Tumbling was started in the early 1920's as an inter- scholastic sport, but was abandoned during the 1950's and '4O's. In l947, Mr. Orville McHenry revived the sport at Wyandotte. The tumblers, although they no longer com- pete with other schools, give a number of exhibitions every year. During the halftime of various home basketball games, the tumblers demonstrate their skills on the mats, the parallel bars, and the horizontal bar. They have per- formed at the Blind School and other schools, churches, and the German Turner Hall. Special letters are awarded Page 74 1 'H t 1 N X Front row: Fred Seal, Bob Vernon, Wayne Preston, john Greenlee, jerry Hogan. Not in picture: Bob Schmidt. to members of the team who qualify for them. Tumbling is just for those boys who are really interested in such work. It is the only activity at Wyandotte that emphasizes the development of the upper body. The team practices about three times a week after school in the corrective gym. This year the boys elected Wayne Preston as captain. Under the expert coaching of Mt. McHenry, our tumblers have put on some fine demonstrations. Our years spent at Wyandotte could be described in the same way. Each one becomes progressively larger and more rewarding. These years rush by so quickly, we can hardly believe that we are finally in our Senior year, one of the busiest and perhaps happiest years of our lives. As we look back on these eventful years, full of so many good times, we will recall happy memories that make leaving Wyandotte an almost sad occasion. Although Wyandotte no longer has a Freshman class, we were the lucky next-to-the-last Freshman class that had an extra year at Wyandotte. Being a Little Freshman was quite an experience. Those first few days around this huge and beautiful building were very exciting as we dis- covered a new hall nearly every day. Having our own lockers proved to be very trying at times. Somehow, in those first few days, we couldn't hit the exact numbers on our combinations Cand no pounding allowedj. The Dog- house became familiar and we dashed around the halls like the rest of the Bulldogs. Those football games on Fri- day nights, pep assemblies, and yells in Social Hall on Friday mornings soon became common events that we really enjoyed. Going to the plays and joining all kinds of clubs showed us that there are so many activities at Wyandotte. Will we ever forget that first State Basketball Tournament? Wowie! did we have a marvelous time CState Champs, toolb We learned quickly that Wyandotte doesn't do anything half way. Of course we can't quite forget that homework or those grade cards, but we all know that we were the ones who made those six weeks grades either happy or not-so- happy occasions. All of a sudden we were Sophomores. That year we made even more new friends and the students coming in from junior high schools helped make us the biggest class Wyandotte had ever had. We were still underclassmen, but now we could join the Kay Cees and even had our By Judy Hubbard class party at night, instead of after school in Recital Hall as we had done our Freshman year. Back to the State Tournament we went for another wonderful time. These tournaments were really unforgettable experiences. This time our undefeated team lost its very last game. The tears flowed freely that night, but we just decided that the next year would be the best time to remain undefeated all season and take the State Championship, too. Then as our junior year flashed by almost before we could turn around, we did just as we had planned, we took the State Championship in basketball, undefeated. We were no longer underclassmen and the pride for our school continued growing. More dances, assemblies, sports events, and other school activities added more and more to our happy memories. As our junior year drew to a close, we chose our senior rings from a wide selection. After the Passing of the Robe ceremony, we slowly began to realize the responsibilities and leadership that comes with being a Senior. Seniors? Oh, yes, that's us! Yes, we are seniors. Now we are experiencing that pride that comes with being a senior. Social Hall, the library, the football field, the cafe- teria, the auditorium, the gym, the swimming pool, and even those classrooms are places where we would like to relive many experiences, because they were the scenes of many good times. The Class of 1958 has accomplished many things, but the biggest test of all has yet to come. We live in a busy, troubled world that changes with each day, and it is almost time for our class to embark into this world of competi- tion. Whether we begin our way up that ladder of success now or further our education first, everyone of us will have to meet this challenge. Graduating from a fine school like Wyandotte, which we feel is the best, starts us off on the right foot and on a steady basis. We'll be leaving many of our friends, but of one thing you can be sure, we'll never, never forget our wonderful years at Wyan- dotte! ,l LEFT TO RIGHT: Bill Gunclerman, treasurer: Joe Chop, vice-presidentg Judy Page 88 Gail Harman, secretaryg Bob Baker, presidentg Mrs. Yvonne Turner, sponsor. fra 'tw' I A Carole Adams John Adams Bonnie Adcox Carol Addison Ted Albright Mickey Alcanter -fa CAROLE ADAMS JOHN ADAMS BONNIE ADCOX CAROL ADDISON TED ALBRIGHT Baseball, Boys Glee Club, Dramatics Club, Plays, Variety Show MICKEY ALCANTER-A Cappella, Boys' VV Club, Biology Club, Boys' Glee Club, Marcia Aldridge Football Letterman, Student Council, Track Letterman Louise Anderson MARCIA ALDRIDGE-A Cappella, Girls' Glee Club, Operetta KAREN ALEXANDER-Girls' Glee Club, Future Teachers Club, Kay Cees, Spanish Club LINDA AMBROSE Dramatxcs Club, Future Teachers Club, Horizon Club, Interna- tional Relations, Kay Cees, Student Council, Tyronian, Y-Teens LOUISE ANDERSON-G.A.A., International Relations, Kay Cees, Y-Teens MYRA ANDERSON-A Cappella, Cheerleader-varsity, Dramatics Club, G.A.A., Girls' Glee Club, Girls' League Council, Girls' League Representative, International Rela- tions, Kay Cees, Pantograph, Plays, Quill and Scroll, Spanish Club-treasurer, Splash Club, Variety Show, Operetta MARJORIE ANDERTON-Orchest ra TASO ANTI-IAN-Biology Club, Golf, Hi-Y, Kay Cees, Ushers Club Karen Alexander , , U MYYI Anderson CONNIE ANTRIM-Classical Club, Dramatics Club, G.A.A., Girls' League Repre- sentative, Future Teachers Club-vice-president-secretary, International Relations, X Kay Cees, Plays, Spanish Club-president LUPE ARELLANO-German Club CAROLYN ASHLEY-Dramatics Club, Tyronian, Y-Teens JEAN BABICK BONNIE BACHERT-Classical Club Dramatics Club Desi n for Livin Future i v S gi Teachers Club, International Relations, Kay Cees, National Thespian-secretary, Plays Linda Ambrose Marjorie Anderton Taso Anthan Connie Antrim Lupe Arellano Carolyn Ashley Jean Babick Bonnie Bachert . ay, ug' H till..
