The Boys' W Club is an organization of varsity lettermen in football, track, swim- ming, tennis, basketball, golf, and baseball. Under the direction of Mr. Paul Starbuck, the cIub's purpose is to raise money for an athletes insurance program. The boys do this by sponsoring various annual events, which are enjoyed by the whole student body. The Girls' W Club is one of the most active organizations at Wyandotte High School, made up of girls who are especially interested in sports. At least once a week each girl is scheduled to participate in some event, such as baseball, sacker, tennis, badminton, volley- ball, basketball, and various other games, depending on the season. By these after-hour ac- tivities each girl is given an opportunity to earn 1,400 points. A gold W is awarded when this goal is reached, which is the highest honor that any girl can achieve in Wyandotte sports. Next in honor comes the large W letter, awarded when the total of 1,000 points have been made, an award of which to be very proud. FRONT ROW: Jackie Sue Thorp, Pat Miligan, Sue Bradley, Brenda Burton. by Judy Hubbard The Splash Club and the B Swimming Club, directed by Miss Ardis Hill, are extra-curricular activities made possible ,for the girls at Wyandotte by our fine pool, These clubs are composed of girls interested in furthering their swimming and diving abilities, and membership is ob- tained by tryouts. The Splash Club is composed of the more experienced swimmers, and members of the B Club become Splash Club members after one year. Each club meets once a week throughout the fall and spring months, have Life Saving and Water Safety Instruction as an annual project, and have a Swim Show as a bi- annual activity, The Splash Club tries to become more skilled in the synchronized phase of the sport, which is combining strokes and stunts to form rhythmic patterns in the water. Swimming to music is a favorite pastime of both groups. The officers of the Splash Club are president, Brenda Burton, vice-president, Pat McGinnis, and secretary- treasurer, Eugenia Mangelsdorf. After earning 600 points, she receives a small 'W g after l0O0 points, she re- ceives a large W , The three girls with the highest number of points over l4O0 receive gold pins.
