The FTA, sponsored by Mr. A. B. Spears, is open to any student who might be in- terested in teaching as a profession. The purpose is to inform its members of the require- ments and qualities that make a good teacher. During the year the Future Teachers heard speakers on various phases of teaching. Their last meeting was in the form of a dinner at which officers for next year were elected. The Future Homemakers of America is a national organization open to any girl who is taking or has taken a homeliving course. The aim of the club is to promote an ap- preciation of successful hornemaking. At Christmas time this year the members divided into fourteen groups, and each group adopted an orphan. Busy days followed as the girls provided toys, clothing, and Christmas treats for the children. FHA is sponsored by Miss Lucille Hawks, Miss Reba Smither, and Mrs. Ann Stubblefield. Officers have been Janice Street, president, Cheryl Howard, vice-president, Gloria Stine, treasurer, and Ann Under- wood, secretary.

The members of the Courtesy Club devote their fourth hour study hall time to provide pleasant music and other services to make our lunch periods more enjoyable. This year special long-playing records were used for the first time. The officers of the Courtesy Club are Sandra Ashley, president, Joyce Davis, vice-president, Donna Gillenwater, secretary, and Judy Smith, sergeant-at-arms. The sponsors are Mr. Mclntire, Mr. Samuelson, Mr, Ellis, and Mr. Sheffield. Another organization that plays a vital part in our lunch periods at Wyandotte is the Cafeteria Cashiers. They collect the money from the students as they go through the lunch line. This year the cashiers work five lunch periods instead of the usual three. The sponsor of the cashiers is Mrs. lrwin. Page 17

Girls taking advanced shorthand and transcription automatically become members of the Tyronian Club. This secretarial club meets once every month and has approximately 60 members. This year from the membership of the club a Secretary of the Year was elected, and she was given an S80 scholarship to the school of her choice. The money was raised by the selling of Christmas wrap. Gaily decorated Christmas posters were distributed throughout the classrooms as one of the projects of the members. One of their outsanding parties was the Christmas dinner at West Haven. The officers for .this year are Peggy Catlett, president, Sandra Patten, vice-president, Barbara Welburn, secretary, and Marilyn Taylor, treasurer. Approximately 60 girls have joined the club this year. Student nurses from different hospitals have talked to the girls on many interesting phases of nursing. One project of the club is to have any junior or senior girl contribute two hours service at Bethany Hospital. Officers for the year are-Carolyn Griesel, president, Frances Otey, vice-pesident, and Betty Wyatt, secretary. The sponsors are Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Winters, and Miss Griffith. A Page 19
