C0 CERT BA D by Julia Ann Herrick The 88 band members in their snappy red and grey uniforms have completed another successful season by playing for the football games, American Royal Parade, Fire Prevention Parade, and the variety show, With the assistance of R. A. Samuelson, their director, the band made a trip to Lawrence to participate in the half-time ceremonies of the Wyandotte- Lawrence game. Their annual concert was greatly enioyed by the students and faculty. Dur- ing the basketball season a small pep band was selected from the band to play at the home games. The band was led by the following officers: president, Jerry Ayres, vice-president, Bill l-largraveg secretary, Beverley Bicknell, treasurer, Gordon Taff, and sergeant-at-arms, David Gordon. ' The hard-working managers for both band and orchestra were Gordon Taff, John Double- day, Raymond Beggs, Harold Baughn, and Kenneth Ogden. PIANO: Marlene Glass, CONDUCTOR: R. A. Samuelson. One of the finest organizations at Wyandotte, the symphony orchestra, offers recreation and enjoyment to its 76 members. The orchestra, under the direction of R. A. Samuelson, provided the music for the plays, Christmas Assembly, Variety Show, National Honor Society, and Baccalaureate Service. At Christmas time the musicians had a joint Christmas Party with the band members in the music room. Each year the orchestra tries to take an out-af- town trip and to have talented members compete in the State Music Contest. ln the spring the orchestra gave a concert for the entire student body and participated in a joint concert with the band in the evening. Leading the orchestra as concert mistress was Marilyn Gun- derman. The officers this year were as follows: president, Dick Mathis, vice-president, John Sam- uelsong secretary, Marilyn Gunderman, treasurer, Mary Frances Chop, and sergeants-at-arms, Bob Baker and Karl Baxley. 4
