HAY EEE IJEEIEERS by Mildred Swim and Janet Hackel Yea Wyandotte! Let's go Bulldogs! These could well be the words heard from about four hundred Kay Cee members, cheering our foot- ball or basketball team on to victory. The membership of the pep club is history- making in size. The reason being the newly adopted constitution. This is the first year that anyone may join-be they sophomore, junior or senior as long as they fulfill the requirements. A new freshmen pep club has also been or- ganized. They too must fulfill the same require- ments as the upper classmen. This new system has worked very successfully under the able leadership and guidance of Mr. William Mc- Intire, the sponsor, or Mr. Mac as he is affectionately called. The Kay Cees sponsored three big dances: the Fall Festival, the Spring Festival, and the Spring Formal. A play and two athletic ban- quets were also on the agenda. We're sure everyone holds memories of at least one of these occasions. To belong to the Kay Cees is a high honor and to students wishing to join it is a challenge to make your years at Wyandotte memorable ones. The topic for the 1953-54 season being: Resolved-That the President of the United States should be elected by the direct vote of the people. The debate team under the supervision of Coach Leonard Jensen, consisted of Charles Shanklin, Brad Lashbrook, Care Munc Bob Ferluga, Roger Wilson, Harold McDaniel, Marilyn Rawlins, Nicki Economy ,John Patton, Ed Keyes, Y Y- Eleanor Knight, Darrell Knight, Martha Mason, Susan Mason, Joe McFall, Sherry Whistler, Ed Niemann, Joe Phillips, jack Gorelick, Loren Taylor. Starting off the season the debaters traveled to Fort Scott on October 30-31, but failed to place. Two weeks later with spirits still high, the jensenites went to Atchison where they took first place in the sophomore division. Following their Hrst victory the Bulldogs accepted Topeka's invitation and on November 20, Charles Shanklin and B d L hb k entered the serrii-finals onlyo to be defeated, thus taking third place. December 4-5 was a double event. ra as roo Coach Jensen split up his squad, sending half to Shawnee Mission and the other half to El Dorado. Charles Shanltlm and h' D mber 11-12 sent the Brad Lashbrook took second place at E1 Dorado, being defeated in the finals by Hutc mson. ece debaters to William Chrisman but their efforts were once again in vain. At the first tournament of the new year at Olathe, novice debaters john Schick and Ward Brenneisen took third ' l d t t events one was held place, failing to get into the finals by a flip of the coin. january 8-9, the team again trave e o wo , at Emporia and the other at North Kansas City, Missouri. The following week Wyandotte was host to 23 schools at the annual Wyandotte Debate Tournament on january ' A l the W andotte debaters 15-16. Hutchinson was the lucky team, taking first place for the second consecutive year. s usua, y did not compete for their own trophy. The regional tourney was held at Lawrence, January 23. Shanklin and Lashbrook along with Muncy and Ferluga rep- resented Wyandotte at this main event but they did not win enough debates to enter the finals.
