SR. HIGH SCHOOL WYAI.USING DEDICA TION . . . 8 ... MR. HOBE HUTCHINS Choosing words to describe our 1985 dedicatee came to us easier than we first anticipated Our research into his life proved most interesting and we think you will to. On a chilly February seventeenth, in 1927 twin boys were born in the little village of Waymart, PA. Both graduated from Way mart High school in the class of '44. The younger of the brothers, nicknamed Buck went on to become a leathersmith in the village of Newfoundland, just down the road. The older brother is the subject of this dedication. After high school Uncle Sam called him into the Army and after a tour of duty in Italy he was discharged shortly before Christmas in 1946. After the service he himself said, I bummed around at several jobs -until September of 1949. It was then he entered East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, completing degree requirements in Health and Physical Education graduating in the class of '53. A fter a year with General Motors in Buffalo. N. Y. he began his teaching career in LeRaysville High School in the fall of 1954. In 1955 LeRaysville and Rome High schools became the Northeast Bradford School District where he taught, coached and counseled. In 1964 in earned his Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Scranton. In November of 1972 he joined the staff at Wyalusing. On June 15. 1957 he married the former Mary Lu Anderson who is presently employed by the office of Dr. Harold Chadwick. They are the proud parents of two children, a son Kris who will complete his Master's Degree requirements from Ohio State University in Sports Management and a daughter Robin who teaches third grade in Downingtown. PA. The major part of his life has been consumed by sports, either playing coaching or officiating. He was a PIAA official in basketball, baseball and both high school and collegiate soccer. He is a staunch LA Dodger and Boston Celtic fan and Mary Lu says she is a fishermans widow. For years he has talked of retirement but we all know differently. This guy is to energetic, restless, vigorous and at times down right fiesty . His zest for life will never let him truly retire . The '85 Yearbook Staff fondly dedicates this edition to our counselor, colleague and friend . . . MR. The face is ageless, and the voice still echoes the same sounds while the living grow older. So let it be with John; laughing, teasing, questioning; loving horses, the outdoors, and people; giving a helping hand to those who needed it. And always to be remembered as our “young” friend. T.L. Co-Championship with an overall record of 22 - 1. The young, rebuilding girls' team finished the season with a very respectable record of 11 - 6. The boys' team was ted by outstanding senior Joe DePoto. Tom Frazier was the outstanding junior on the team with an undefeated season. Another dependable junior was Jeff Cole. Outstanding sophomore on the team was Ed Naspinski, who usually remained in second place - right behind his team mate Tom Frazier. Our outstanding freshman was Steve Naspinski. The girls' team was led by outstanding freshman Janette Slabicki and Dione Frazier. Also outstanding were sophomore Denise DePoto and Fay Fassett, along with outstanding senior Michelle Cobb and hard-working captain, Julie Ross. There were some individual special achievements on our team. Tom Frazier, Ed Naspinski. and Janette Slabicki all placed high enough in district competition to qualify for state competition. At states, Tom Frazier placed 17th, Janette Slabicki placed 32nd, and Ed Naspinski placed 105th out of approximately 300 runners. Also. Tom. Ed, and Janette were selected to the all NTL Coaches first teams, while Joe DePoto was selected to the boys' second team. Some memorable moments we all shared on this Year's Cross Country team include: Beating the Waverly boys' team by placing 1, 2, 3. Thad Otten's “revealing performance at Wellsboro. Julie Ross finishing in front of someone. Losing to Waverly, but knowing we did our best. After beating Sullivan and Northeast, the Rams went into a tailspin losing three out of Weir, next fivegamgs. The three losses were to Waverly (6-3). Towanda (2-0). and to Sayre (10-4). The Rams finished the half with a win over Troy having a 5-3 league record. The second half was completely different Not only did the Rams win all eight second-half games, they did it in a manner that showed the league that their three losses were just flukes. In that second-half spree, the Rams outscored their opponents 73-11. The 10-3 win over Towanda and the 9-1 win over Sayre were the highlights of the season. The Rams ended their regular season with a 15-3 record (13-3 in the N.T.L.) and a share of the N. T.L. crown. The Rams defeated a scrappy Sayre Redskins ball dub in the semi-district playoff, but lost to Central Columbia in the District IV finals by a score of 12-5. Individually the Rams had some standouts. Junior. Dean Beeman. had a perfect season as he earned seven wins without a loss. Senior. Doug Oswald, picked up key wins over Towanda and Sayre during the Rams championship drive to end his high school career with a 7-3 record. Offensively, the Rams bats sizzled throughout the second half. The team batted .333 with Senior. In the early season we had five positions to fill after a loss of seven players from last year’s championship team. Many players, both old and new, were rotated in and out of various slots before we arrived with a working combination. On offense, we were unable to get hits when they counted the most. Jenny Fitzgerald, senior, led the team with the most number of hits, stolen bases, and the highest batting average. Freshman. Kathy Horne had the most RBI's and showed her power with six homeruns. two of which were grand slams! Defensively. Cathy Warner, our pitcher, had a league record of 14-3. Cathy had three shutouts and four one-hitters. Cathy is a junior and will be returning next year. When our bats were silent so were our gloves Most of our errors seemed to occur when we weren 7 hitting. We will lose three seniors to graduation: Jenny Fitzgerald, Kathy Bendt. and Brenda Fly. The 1985 Softball team entered the playoffs only to fall to West Snyder by a scorn of 12-7. 137 BOYS TRACK Top (L to R) J. Jannone; C. Crawford; T. Sandor; J. Sutton; J. Benninger; J. Williams; M.
