r Forward We the members of the 1978-1979 Vallian staff wish to present to you your annual yearbook publication. This year has been a year of much improvement and change throughout our school. We would like to welcome Mr. Robert Jenkins who became our new Assistant Principal in January, 1979, replacing Mr. Warner Stark who is currently on a sabbatical for one year. We hope Mr. Jenkins enjoys his year and has many fond memories of his days with us when he leaves. In the area of sports we achieved only moderate success throughout the year, but we would like to thank all the individuals who participated and sincerely hope they reached their own personal goals. Overall, it has been an extremely fun year filled with new experiences as well as activities. This book is the compilation of all of these things. It is the result of many hours of hard work, disagreement, and effort. We, the Vallian staff, would like to thank all those who made this book possible. We hope you enjoy this year's publication and in years to come, look back on it with smiles and laughter. Teri Goodwin - Editor Board Of Education Standing: Charles Lacey; E. Thomas Champluvier, Pres.; James Mcmahon; Wendall Wilson; John Culver. Seated: Robert Dib ble, Sec.; Maxine Meteer, Adrian Fisk; Lewis Reinhart, Trea. Superintendent Congratulations to the Senior Class of 1979. As young adults, you are entering one of the most exciting times of your lives. I trust that your education at the Wyalusing Valley Junior-Senior High School has prepared you for the many challenges which you will face in the years ahead. Continue to hold your heads high, have trust in your country and God, faith in your fellow man and yourself, and forge ahead as an achiever who will shape the future. Your parents, teachers, and I are proud of your achievement of graduation and now look to the future to evaluate how we have done our part. Your success in the future is our best wish and hope. 4 Sincerely yours, James Smith Superintendent Principal Mr. Kenneth S. Williams Assistant Principal Mr. Warner Stark Congradulations and best wishes to the class of '79. May you achieve your goals in life and contribute to society those ideas which we all strive to attain. Sincerely Warner F. Stark Assistant Principal Congratulations graduates for having climbed the hills of the past 12 years of public school education. They have conditioned you for the mountains that face you the remainder of your life. You undergraduates wilI be equally successful with the help and encouragement of the faculty and your parents. You have made the time I have spent with you challenging, interesting, and a rewarding experience. My advice to all can be no better said than the final sentence in the Desiderata - STRIVE TO BE HAPPY . 7 Mr. Robert Jenkins As always, Robert E. Jenkins Dedication . . . 8 The year 1979 has been proclaimed the International Year of the Child'1 and few people have assisted more students to come and go than the individual to whom this year's VALLIAN is dedicated. Her maiden name was Brown, and she has resided most of her life in the Wyalusing area. She graduated from Wyalusing High School, Class of '54. Following high school graduation she entered the United States Air Force where she traveled extensively and acquired a variety of secretarial skills. Miss Brown changed her name on April 29, 1970, when she wed her husband William. They now reside on their farm in Sugar Run with their three children. She enjoys horseback riding, cake decorating, and country music. Her dream is to vacation in Hawaii and someday retire in Tennessee. This year marks the twentieth year of her employ at W. V.H. S. It has often been said and now let it be written that, This building could not function without her, a statement which she will modestly deny. Her modesty can only be surpassed by her congeniality and efficiency. The VALLIAN staff is proud to dedicate the 1979 edition to our high school secretary, friend, and one fine lady--Mrs. Donna Lutz. 9 J u4 jiaJvn, t o J} TTUtft? q t s a Mt . ia)c—' Senior Class Officers President - Donna Sowden Vice President: Karen Wilbur Secretary: Becky Peterson Treasurer: Debi Wilbur Best Dressed Kim Latimer Dave Page Kim Hugo Dan Learn Best All-Around 13 Class Favorites Theresa Durland Jeff Bennett Class Clowns Karen Wilbur Gary Oliver Most Athletic Debi Wilbur Jerry Robinson 14 Cutest Class Flirts Kim Wilbur Joe Wulff Kristy Shaffer Rob Sowden Rowdiest Theresa Hatton Jeremy Black 15 Most Cooperative Friendliest MERSFys Most Likely To Succeed Teri Goodwin Norris Mosier Brian Salsman Debbie Colson Ginger Mosier Tim Savoy 16 Shell! I have made many friends and I have many pleasant memories of my experience In the United State of America. I will not forget my fellow classmates who welcomed me into the W.V.H.S. and treated me very well during my year in this country. Fernando Dillon Mexico My name is Selva Antelo. I'm from Santa Cruz (Bolivia). I'm in the United States as a foreign student from the Rotary Club. The United States is beautiful. I'm very happy and I like it very much. The school, the people, my new friends, and my new family are wonderful too. My plans for the future are to study finances in Spain or Brazil and to learn other languages. I expect to have good memories of this country. It has been a great experience. It has been difficult to learn another language, but I do it so I can take back to Bolivia a part of the U.S. and so that my countrymen have a better understanding of the American people. And has received much more student support than in years gone by. For the first time in this schools history, the student body had a Carnation Day. Which was held on Valentines Day. Homecoming was a big success. It consisted of a parade, a football game, and a dance. The movies were quite popular also, with the attendance of most of the student body. The Student Council Organization is working diligently with the hope that it will remain active in the years to come. We would like to extend our deepest graditude to Mrs. Bradley, for all of her time, support, and advice.
