0 ¥ Wyalusing Valley High School Wyalusing, Pa. Linda Eberlin—editor-in-chief Richard Yadlosky—advisor Forward We, the Vallian Staff of 1975, would like to present this book to you as how we recall the past. There are things we probably should have done but did not realize it at the time. There are things we would have liked to do, had the circumstances allowed. But we feel, all in all, that this is a book of memories built by people who are a part of them. Now the value of the book lies in years to come. 2 fc Raymond George Anderson Academic Activities—none Future—Service Linda Kathryn Ackley Vocational Activities—none Future—Housewife Jeffery Eric Aeppli Trade and Industry Activities — Football, wrestling, A-V Club, Spanish Club, T I Club Patricia Louise Armitage Vocational Activities—None Future—Undecided 4 William Thomas Barnes Academic Activities—Basketball, Spanish Club Future—College Larry LaVerne Barto Academic Activities—none Future—Machinist Michael William Bastian Academic Activities—Football Future—Undecided Sally Jo Benscoter Vocational Activities—F.H.A. Rotary Foreign Exchange Student I have spent the past few months very contented in this school. It is quite different from mine such as we begin at 8:40 and leave at 1:00 P.M. Something which caught my attention is the lunch in school. I like the school in every way, the sports, teachers, classes and I am certainly happy that I am able to be a part of the Class of 1975. About this country, it differs from Argentina in climate, life, food, clothing and so on. 1 like the houses because they are large and comfortable. The country is very picturesque, with much vegetation in spring and in winter with much snow. This is the first time for me to see snow and I liked it very much. 1 am very happy in this country and when I return to Argentina I will carry back many memories. When I return to my country, I am thinking of working and studying to become an English teacher. Cross Country Coach Football Team Places Third Despite Obstructions Complications and obstructions filled our football season this year. First, a flu epidemic hit out team while still in practice. Then, during the season, three of our senior players were hurt. Our resulting record was 3 wins, 6 losses; and we placed third in the league. Although we had a fair season, the coach pondered the empty spot there would be next year when the seniors are gone. Jeff Aeppli Mike Bastian Francis Collins Rich Howard Roger Hoyt Ray Brigham Scott Johnson Brian Bennett Tim Reinhart Burnie Sheldon Daryl Smith Jeff Snyder Andy Voda The “Rough and Ready” Rams. The Up And Coming! We were proud of both our Junior Varsity and Junior High football teams this year. They really got it together this year with the Junior Varsity record of 5 wins and only 2 losses, the second year in a row with this same record. The coaches have great expectations for next year, hoping the guys will do as well or better than this season. If the guys on these teams do as well when they are varsity players, our football records will really soar. The Junior Varsity Football Squad Hillman’s Hill-Climbers Mike Walker Chris Preston Neil Gary The Cross Country Team for 1974 consisted of the following athletes: LEFT TO RIGHT, TOP TO BOTTOM—Rich Armoia, John Zaner, Jon Schultze, Mr. Mark Hillman, Mike Walker, Neil Gary, and Chris Preston. Absent from the photo were Ralph Schobert and Matt Rosencrance, both seniors. } ”,.5£2 ■ :safv ' --JR' “Hillman’s Hillclimbers” had a series of injuries and complications this year that seriously affected the final league standing. Mike Walker, a senior runner, was out with a broken foot; and a junior, Rich Armioia, was also injured. The bright spot of the season, though, was filled by Neil Gary, our outstanding runner for the year. Neil placed first in all track meets except for three. In those three, he placed second twice and third only once. He was planning to go to the state meet; but on the day of the meet, he was sick and could Basketball 1974-75 Daryl Smith Bumie Sheldon Bill Barnes Neil Gary When I can take the criticism of others. And turn it into energy to create something better. Then I can look upon my work with pride And say I’ve done my best! The varsity basketball team had a tough time this year. For some reason, they just couldn’t get it together. They did improve in the second half; however, and with it came an improving moral. They put forth a fine effort ending the record with 4 wins and 18 losses. The team was under the managers of Gayle Williams and Scott Johnson. The junior varsity did a good job this year. They played beautifully in the second half championship but lost the championship game. The first half was also great, and their moral was at its highest all season. They ended the season with a record of 11 wins and 10 losses. The team’s manager was Bobby Ott. 85 Thwarting Thirteen The 1974-75 Varsity Basketball Team coached by Carmen Pitarra. The ending record was 10 wins and 5 losses, and we placed 2nd in the league. Our record was somewhat affected by the injury of one of our Varsity players. Two sophomore girls were moved from JV to Varsity to take her place. Because of the injury, we lost 3 of our games in the 2nd half of the season. We were tied for the 1st half championship but lost in the playoff game. Transitions by players caused our 2nd platoon to fall, but we hope they have a brighter season next year. 92 Julie Dunham Volleyball Varsity Squad J.V.Squad Seniors Both Varsity and J.V. squads were coached by Miss Elaine Arnold. Neither team’s year was of great success but the moral and level of sportsmanship was extremely high. The Varsity Squad consisted of 5 seniors this year. The objective of the honor society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students. To be accepted for membership in the society, you must first meet all four requirements. They are: Leadership, Character, Scholarship, and Service. Although the society does not accept anyone with a scholastic average less than a “B”, all four requirements are considered when choosing new members for the society, not any one requirement alone. m Officers Mike O’Mara President Bernie Sheldon Vice-President Lee Ann Bums Secretary Frank Lacey Treasurer 112 •i-h ,.Q fn Cd fn The Library Club tends to be one of the most active clubs in the school. With this in mind, we feel the dedication of this yearbook should go to a person who is an inspiration to our daily lives. This person should be one who has helped us understand ourselves in fulfilling our goals. In this respect, we would like to show our appreciation for being the person he is. This man came to Wyalusing Valley High School in 1966, after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Mansfield State College. During his nine years with us, he has shown us outstanding qualities in leadership, service, guidance and understanding. He is a member of the Social Studies Dept., while at the same time being continuously active with the students, faculty and community. He has been a track and football coach for nine years and and assistant basketball coach for three years, bringing out qualities of victory, defeat, and sportsmanship. He is an advisor to the Lettermen’s Club and to the Senior Class, showing leadership and guidance. He is also active in the community currently being the president of the Wyalusing Borough Council. His former home was Atwood, Illinois until his marriage to Barbara Place of Wyalusing. He is now a devoted father to two children, David and Heidi. The characteristic we admire most in him is that he is a true friend and has deeply touched our lives. In appreciation, we the Vallian Staff dedicate the 1975 Vallian to Mr. David Behrend.
