VALU AN - 1969 Wyalusing Valley High School F On a warm, breezy night in June the members of the Senior Class of WVHS leave behind them many memories. Only the graduate knows how rewarded are the ones who will be comingback next fall. Each graduate goes into a new life. To many this means additional schooling, to others the start of a career. So as this graduate or underclassman looks through the pages of our yearbook, for a fleeting moment he or she is reliving the past. He is laughing with old and new friends, rehearsing for the play, decorating for a dance, winning a trophy again. He remembers the hours he spent studying for those exams, and the times spent elsewhere instead. Yes, a yearbook is for all; it helps to remember those small, menial, but important times that contribute to each of our futures. It is with this in mind that the Vallian Staff gives you a yearbook that says, Memories of the Past are here to stay.” D 2 WVHS is . . . It was predicted that it would be the year of the Ram and it was. After losing the opening game to Lake Lehman they went on to win the remaining eight games and the Northern Tier League championship. There were many contributions made by different individuals at different times, but rather than write about individuals I want to discuss the team as a whole. The overall effort of this team can best be described in mathematical terms. When the players stepped on the field one became eleven and eleven became one. As one watched this Ram team in action one got the impression that the boys were not playing just to win a letter, but to help their team win a game. Like any good team they rose to whatever occasion arose and often made their own breaks. They sustained a drive in the closing minutes of the game to defeat a determined Troy team. Against a powerful Canton team they struck quickly through the air and changed the complexion of that game to a winning one. With their backs to the wall they proved that their defense was as adequate as it had to be and took the ball away from Towanda on the five yard line in the closing minute of that game. The final game of the season the Rams met what was supposed to be their toughest test of the entire season. Lackawana Trail was undefeated and seldom scored upon when they came to Wyalusing that fateful Saturday afternoon. When it was all over Wyalusing had won by two touchdowns and had, as the Rocket headline read, ’‘Beaten the Unbeatables.” And so our congratulations to the Champions and long will they be the subject of many a conversation. You have given your school their first championship, but you have given more than that. The 1968 team has provided the teams of the future with a new objective. That objective will be to produce a better team than the Rams of 1968. 41 Entire WVHS Wrestling Squad. Coaches - MR. SCHNURE, MR. GOODMAN SENIOR WRESTLERS: FRONT ROW: L. Stethers, P. Beebe, C.
