Since that time, we have matured and will soon be graduating into another plase of life. In the following pages, we would like to present to you the last episode of our school life. Miss Chamberlain! Y ou never told us. Sleeping beauty? Clyde Skipper' Croswell’s boat - July 20, 1941. Our truant Officer! ? Dedication We the Class of 1961 dedicate this publication of the yearbook, the VALLIAN, to Mrs. Joyce Philippi, our yearbook advisor. Who You Admiring, Joe?? 12 Memorial Day Memorial Day Somebody Goofed Let Her Fly, Dora Marching Band Halloween??? {c ministration To the Class of 1961 Six years ago, you crossed the threshold of a new educational building and a new type of secondary education for our valley. As you looked up the mountain to the various levels of achievement in learning, it must have been frightening to think of the six long years of climbing to the first commencement plateau. You saw the cliffside obstructed by hundreds of books, test tubes, typewriters, classroom desks, disciplinary bulletins, old athletic schedules, old dance programs with cheers and some with tears, and a little sprinkle of old gym sneakers, oversized handbags, and a muddled luggage room. Some along the way thought that the obstacles were too great and dropped out, but now you are at the plateau commencement and you look up the mountainside and realize that the climb from here will be far easier than the preceding climb, and as you stand here upon this plateau looking upward, you are stronger, you are better equipped physically, mentally, and spiritually than those who passed before, so you will be charged with widening the trail upward, better and smoother for those who are to pass this way in the future. To the class of 1961 The members of your class are the first students to receive their high school education in the consolidated Wyalusing Valley Junior-Senior High School. It is my sincere hope that you will return to society a full measure of service in return for the investment society has made in your name. Kenneth S. Williams Principal 14 Jacu ty ancf MR. To be a member a student must be enrolled in one or more business subjects. Various degrees can be obtained by earning points. Each degree requires a set number of points. The points serve as a record of the progress of each member and are received by performing certain duties of the club and by doing outside work which pertains to business subjects. One of the purposes of the club is to carry out projects which will increase the interest in business. This organization was first organized in this school this year, and is under the leadership of Mrs. Joyce Philippi, Head of the Business Department. UTURE USINESS EADERS MERICA 97 BACK ROW: T. Starner By living with other people who have different customs, different history, and different language, I came to realize in an easy way the possibility for the people of all the world to come closer together. I arrived at this conclusion because of what I found during this wonderful year in the United States from my home in Italy; I also found so many nice people and so many friends that I never felt as if I were among people of another country. I felt as I did at home, with my own people. I am sure I will always remember this year as one of the most wonderful of my life, a year which I would not trade for anything. Summing up this year, I can say without any hesitation that the United States has become a second home for me. U£e V?, a ms BACK ROW: R. McDonough, J. Harrison, T. Way, J. Thompson, P. Brewer, D. The 1960-61 basketball squad got off to a good start in the pre-season warm-up games this year. The team looked especially good at the Benton Tournament, winning two and losing two. We opened the league meeting with the top teams first and were slow coming into our own. The latter part of the league proved the point that with experience we would be a team with hustle and ability and could win. One of the bright spots in this year's squad is the fact that most of the boys will return next year and everyone is looking forward to great games next season. The team record was 10 wins and 16 losses. Two of the losses were in over-time periods and could have gone either way. All in all we feel we had a good year and gained badly-needed experience which will be very valuable next year. STANDING: G. Felter C. Sickler S. Cole S. Heath L. Kneller T. McPherson K.
