As a 'I newsreel gives glimpses of current happenings in their natural back- if 1 ' grounds, this yearbook gives an insight into the things that have oc- fllil . ' curred in the all-important first year in our new school. lt shows: the yr' 1 ' FACULTY, of whom the school is justly proud for each has become a 3412 ' personal friend to each of his studentsg the CLUBS, good organizations ig:-,f that help to further the education of the students beyond the material learned from books, the STUDENTS, willing to learn. Qwell, that is, ff 3 most of them,j This book will remind us of our comrades, the funny H l little incidents that make life worthwhile, and the school as a whole, .- I where life wasn't really bad after all. We sincerely hope that you will 5 B'. look back on this yearbook as one of the many firsts at W.V. I-LS. , Us 3 3 and as a sign of a new world ofeducation. The Student Council is the over-all student organization which represents everyone in the school and speaks for everyone. Its members are elected by students to serve as their official representatives in all matters of concern to the entire school. Its aims are to develop attitudes of and practice in good citizenship:pro- mote harmonious relations throughout the entire school: improve school morale, assist in the management of the school: provide a forum for student expression: provide orderly direction of school activities, charter school clubs and other organizations: promote the general welfare of the school: conduct class elections. The Forscht Chapter of the National Honor Society was granted its charter in 1951. The objects of this chapter are to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in pupils. This organization has some forty graduate members and twenty-one active members of the junior and senior classes. In the spring of each year, the probationary members are selected from members of the sophomore class. The Athletic Council is made up of representatives of the student body. One student from each home room and the council advisor, Mr. Worthington, are the voice of the students pertaining to any athletic activities The council raises money to help pay for athletic equipment by selling tickets and refreshments at games. ,-3 ,, .. 1 t, ,, First row: C. It began practicing as soon as school convened in September. Marching for the Halloween parade was fun, although it required much drill. The members of the band are looking for- ward to the annual spring concert which will be held in May. Some of the selections for the concert will be taken from County and District Band music. This year our band was proud to be able to send three boys, Dick Stone, Kirk Dunklee, and Steve Jennings, to District Band at Canton. Our band has four new members this year: Harriette Brotzman, Mary Lou Proof, Virginia Klotzbach, and Russell Robinson. A fine improvement to the band this year is a set of new tympani and two sousaphones, given to the band by the School Board. ' - ww Seated: D. Anderson, J. Christian. Kneeling: P. Snyder, E. This is the first year that these students have played together, but it is hoped that this unit may continue as a school service in other years. Our school is proud of the fact that it has the only active student dance band in the area. They have also entertained at Montrose, Tunkhannock, and various schools throughout the past year. Zami?
