The members of the class of 1964 look back on four successful years of activity, achievement, and enjoyment as they regard with mixed emotions the anxiety and solemnity surrounding their graduation. This class established a tradition when, as freshmen, they sponsored the first of four annual Pizza Parties. During their final year of high school, the seniors have been busy with aptitude tests, college entrance examinations, military introduction programs, senior pictures, and graduation announcements. Much of their time has been spent in preparation for, and in anticipation of, their post-graduation activities which include college, vocational and and business schools, military service, and Work. Wy'east will greatly miss the leadership and contributions of this enthusiastic class. 1. 'Q'1aVw. This year's junior class has dominated many of the schoo1's activities. By over-powering the sophomore and senior boys, the junior boys won the tug-of-War at the Homecoming Rally, at which time the class of 1965 also Won the noise parade. The night of the Homecoming game, the juniors were proud to crown their princess, Queen Sharron Ray, thereby completing the list of triumphs the class had achieved during the Homecoming festivities. The class of '65 was in charge of decorating the tables at the Christmas banquet, after which they were happy to hear that they had received the prize for hall decorations. The juniors, who are also in charge of concessions, the Junior-Senior Prom, and graduation decorations have played an important role in the functions of Wy'east High. : Q f . 1- ' l X 3. 1 if 11,2 5 f i 1 'Lx F 44 1 1 V. .Q V , .55 -if ' W 1 3 4 , 11 1 - 3111 Q' 1 1' B ' f 1 h -1 .. E GRID IRON ACTION IS THE HEART OF FOOTBALL New coaches, more coaches, a new system and new opponents marked the 1963 football sea- son for the Wy'east Grid team. A young team turned out and supplied a tough defense and a fast offense which gave Wy'east the highest ranking in recent years. Several coaches were added to the football staff so that each player could receive more at- tention. Coaches Day and Kronmiller served their first year on the Wy'east staff. The platoon system was introduced to keep players from tiring in competition. This pro- vided two full platoons of players which could replace each other when necessary. Two new opponents faced Wy'east this year, as Canby and Estacada joined the Wilco League. Both proved to be hard fighting teams. Wy'east earned praise for the tough defensive line of the Eagles. It held all of the opponents to short ground gains. No team managed to run for more than one touchdown against the Wy'east line. Outstanding in this department were Bob Morris and Tim Weygandt. The offense for Wy'east featured an alert and fast backfield which accounted for a large rushing yardage total. Quarterback Skip Swyers had ample support from Bob McElhose, Doug Radliff and Roger Short. These boys accounted for three-fourths of Wy'east's total scoring. Wy'east's passing attack showed great improvement over that of 1962. Sophomore Cam Axford and Senior Bob Morris proved effective at end positions. Parkrose proved to be the league's toughest team. Their victory over Wy'east started the Eagles on a three game losing streak which wrecked high hopes for a league championship. The Eagles came back strong to finish the season with two more wins. It all added up to a second place tie for the Eagles. Hopes are high for next season since this year's team was composed mainly of juniors and sophomores including a junior quarter- back. TENSION MOUNTS AS COACH GIVES LAST MINUTE INSTRUCTIONS Coach Garrett gives instructions over microphone, while players listen attentively. Improvement marked the basketball season. The team earned the best record Wy'east has had in five years. The Eagle squad won eleven league games and the fourth place position in the Wilco League. Records fell as Wy'east star, Roger Baker performed outstandingly. He set records for scoring both in a single game and for a season total. His talents earned him a posi tion on the all-league team. Even the leaders had reason to look out for Wy'east. Only seven points separated Wy'east and Parkrose, the state champions, at the end of the season's opener. Reynolds, Scappoose, Estacada, Molalla and Silverton fell twice each to the Eagle team. Canby edged out the Eagle team once but was completely swamped in the re- turn game. Jesuit and Sandy also topped the Wy'east team. Only two games, however, were large defeats. In most losses the margin was only three or four points. It was a small team that reaped the basketball honors for Wy'east. Seven men filled the positions and served as substitutes. They were rewarded with fifteen victories for the season. Coach Dick Garrett was new this year to Wy'east, but he provided the inspiration and skill the team needed to win. We thank Joe Kollas who made frequent trips to take the special action shots requested by us. The title and division pages photographs are also his work. Duane Coles, photographer for Holman Studios of Baker, Oregon, took the many special candid shots, individual photographs and organization group pictures. Bob Hall supplied several unusual action pictures of football and basketball. Mike Bennett spent hours and hours in the planning and drawing of the division art work. R. Wallace Pischel of Pasco, Washington, published this yearbook. Their sales representative, Sam Fort, has rendered our staff fine assistance throughout the year on special problems that we have encountered. Our advisor, Joan Fowler, gave much time and important assistance to the production of this yearbook. A.. Jywwff , M- . X? M T VZ I U , X Q5 VIAI I J lf! Md? ' W3 'X , WX' Q, Vfqn, J M , he ,. fy !
