USHEHETTES The duties oi the usherettes included ushering at the various school plays and :Lusic programs. Some of the girls babysat in the Home Economics rooni as well as folded and handed out programs. This year the usherettes consisted of approximately twenty Junior girls and the head usherette, Sharon George, a Senior. The girls were under the leadership of Miss Pendergast, the club's advisor. They sponsored many events, varying from the hilarious Globe Trotters game to the lovely semi-formal dance in March. The Lettermen had an active part in the calendar project and challenged the Student Body to a contest to see who could sell the most calendars. They undertook the job of keeping students off the gym floor at noon. The officers of the club were: President: Bob Mahan: Vice-President: Bob Oberrnireg Secretary-Treasurer: Arvid Johnson.

PLL If this is kindergarten, I like., Science Prof's of Wy'east The teachers institute was held on October 10-12 at The Dalles High School. This lasted a period or two days. With much anticipation, the students awaited the 1954 carnival which was held on October 16. The carnival was very well supported. The booths were operated by students from each class. The booths were covered with great long strips of crepe paper of all colors. Although you might fail to win the prize you wanted, there were so many more interesting and amusing things which you could try for you didn't even notice the failure. Never before have Wy'east and l-lood River given a joint performance, but the ice was broken by the bands. During the half-time of the football game the bands from the two schools gave a presentation on the field. A green mossy atmosphere hung over the cafeteria Friday evening, the fifth of November for the first Swamp stomp in 'Wy'east history. Dancers entered the'Swamp Stomp through a shack made of old weather worn boards and whirled under lowered ceilings and around misty pools of swamp water. A special F.l:'.A. assembly was held on Tuesday November 9, 1954. David Kollas entertained his audience by displaying slides taken while on his trip. Fritz Gangwer later rendered a short resume. This was an award won by their activities in F.F.A. Sixteen year old David Carlson and the Cooper Sisters visited Wy'east and presented an assembly on November 12, 1954. David Carlson played the piano, and among his numbers was a novelty called Three Blind Mice , played in his own interpretation. The Cooper Sisters sang a few numbers and closed the assembly with Cocktails for Two. There was a Chink standing over her with a hatchet-
