The Board meets on the last Friday of each month. Working without pay, they devote many hours of their time to enable our communities to have a bet- ter, and more efficient school system. The meet- ings are open to the public. Being elected to their offices by districts, they serve a term of four years. WE ARE CONVINCED that the continued growth of our company depends upon the training and abilities of our people. A VARIETY OF FREE COURSES is offered to Armco men and women. Courses range from blue- print reading to advanced metallurgy and man- agement. Some of our teachers are university professors. ARMCO’S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM helps em- ployees to learn more about job skills, company operations or earn credit toward college degrees. ONE OF EVERY FOUR Armco employees enrolls each year in a company training class or a univer- sity course. Our students know that it takes trained brains to make and sell steel. They know that they will earn bigger paychecks as their un- derstanding and skills improve. HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES who qualify may take advantage of more than 100 different training programs. Some become skiiied journeymen after four years of on-the-job and classroom instruc- tion. Others take courses at colleges and univer- sities. And Armco pays the tuition. IT TAKES TRAINED BRAINS to make steel. This is why Armco is in the education business. And this is why we urge you to finish your high school education. Whether you plan to work' for a steel company or in some other field, we are sure you will discover that it takes trained brains to get ahead today. Let us now in a moment of reminiscence look back upon our journey, in which we shared four of the happiest years of our lives. ALL ABOARD! This was the call as 143 eager freshmen boarded the train at station one. The beginning of the trip brought on a lot of confusion, but everyone soon became settled and began to make new friends. Our conductors for this portion of the trip were Mr. Woodrow Creech, Mr. Edwin Hedgepeth, Mrs. Pearl Clark, and Mr. Robert Haight. The officers were: Sharon Justice, President; Judy Brown, Vice-President; Margaret Marshall, Secretary; Vonda Felty, Treasurer. As we departed from station two, 29 passengers had reached their destination. We now numbered 114 determined sophomores. There was royalty aboard for this portion of the trip as Freda Collier was crowned Basketball Queen. Our conductors were Mrs. Burma Fletcher, Mr. Leo Floyd, Mr. Donald Gilbert, and Mr. Bobby Hall. The class officers were; Donald Crum, President; Brends Reed, Vice-President; Sharon Justice, Secretary; Virginia Mullins, Reporter. Having left station three still 101 strong, we began a more eventful part of our journey. For the entertainment a play was presented entitled LOCK, STOCK AND LIPSTICK. A prom was also presented for the seniors. The conductors were; Miss Beth Bowling, Mrs. Sally Braf- ford, and Mr. Tom Jennings. The officers were; Anna Traylor, President; Gary Carpenter, Vice-President; Brenda Reed, Secretary; Donna McCloud, Treasurer. As we departed from station four, we numbered 100 anxious seniors. The end of the journey was drawing near. The final portion of the trip was filled with many activities. The entertain- ment included a play entitled THE BUS STOPS HERE. The royalty aboard were: Carolyn Ble- vins, Football Queen; Sharon Justice, Basketball Queen; Dinah Baker, Snowball Queen; Donna McCloud, Miss WHS; Kenni Conley, Miss Pioneer. The conductors were Miss Beth Bowling and Mr. Tom Jennings. The officers were: Anna Traylor, President; Larry Campbell, Vice-Presi- dent; Brenda Reed, Secretary; Virginia Mullins, Treasurer. Now as we look back upon our journey, we feel a sadness in our hearts that has grown from the love for Wurtland High School that we have all come to know. We must not look back, we must press forward into the world more determined than ever that we will reach our goals.
