In September 1960 ninety-six plants awaited in the fields, for the sun overhead was brighter and our roots were stronger, while we drank of the knowledge and prestige that we were to value for the rest of our lives. Our side crops that season were ones we enjoyed to the fullest extent. These included our junior play entitled Call Me Darling and the customary annual Junior-Senior prom with which we honored the Senior Class. Our overseers were: Shirley Hamilton. Sally Brafford and Paul Baker. We shall never forget their help and guidance in preparing us for our final season. Our tillers were: President, Roger Bellew; Vice President, Charlie Bradford; Secretary, Hubert Rose; Treasurer, Paul Scott. Two more of our plants blossomed that season, Syrilda Harris as Prom Queen and Betty Scott as Football Queen. On a beautiful sunlit day in September 1961, eighty-six nearly matured plants budded as full fledged Seniors! With the sun high above we enjoyed a feeling of contentment, for our ever nearing goal could now be seen. With a sigh of relief we now could well afford to relax. We were very well pleased with the success of our Senior Play entitled, Hillbilly Weddin. ” Our overseers were Mr. and Mrs. Layne Tackett, Glennis Liles, and Betty Porter. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their untiring help and guidance they have given us. Our tillers were: President, Doretha Stafford; Vice President, Charlie Bradford; Secretary, Yetta Justice; Treasurer, Paul Scott. Two of our plants blossomed this season, Rita Bradley as Miss Pioneer, and Sara Smith as Beta Club Queen. The sun is slowly setting - Victory is ours! We have never faltered, never failed in the conquest for our cherished goal. The day of the harvest has come, and though we may never again be planted to- gether, or pass through the gates of Wurtland High School as one, let us plant our feet on solid ground. For on the horizon looms the golden harvest moon - We can now, bravely and proudly, pursue the future with confidence. Donna Gleason Ourselves Our Future Lies
