The Harvest The class of nineteen hundred and sixty-two, in its struggle for wisdom, confidence and maturity, was grown in the fields of knowledge - fields in which many sunny ways were spent. We shall now stroll down the lane of reminiscence and look across the fields to days gone by, remembering the rain and sunshine that filled our hearts with gladness and made us grow. We shall never forget when we, as seedlings, started on a long journey - one that has reaped us many treasured memories and untold gains, and has led us to the harvest - graduation. In the fall of September, 1958, as the sun rose over the fields of Wurtland High one hundred and forty-six seedlings were transplanted to our bed; thus, beginning the last stage of our growth toward ma- turity. During that season our overseers were: Woodrow Creech, Jim Fletcher, Robert Haight, and Fred Smith. To them we are sincerely grateful for enabling us to look forward to our second year of growth. Our tillers that season were: President, Paul Scott; Vice-President, Donald Gumbert: Secretary and Treasurer, Charlie Bradford. One of our seedlings, Yetta Justice, blossomed during this season as Valentine Queen. As the end of the season grew near we had hopes that our roots had grown strong enough to support us for the hardships of our second year. Our second year of growth started in September, 1959, when one hundred and nineteen plants had managed to with- stand all hardships bestowed upon them. The sun seemed brighter as we entered the second season. We were proud that we had withstood the hardships in the fields of Wurtland High School. Our overseers that year were: Georgia May, and Betty Vaughn. They helped us to gain confidence in our growth toward harvest. Our tillers were: President, Yetta Justice; Vice-President, Doretha Stafford; Secretary, Betty Scott; Treasurer, June McCaleb. During this year another plant, Berta Scott, blossomed as Football Queen.
