UNKNOWN Barn On Original Site Allyn Hall, named in honor of Stanley C. Allyn, who, with Robert S. Oelman, served as co-chairman of the combined University Building Fund campaign. The second phase of the construction program, Oelman Hall, was completed in 1966, and houses research laboratories, special scientific facilities, and a five hundred seat amphitheater. The largest building on the campus is Millctt Hall, named in honor of Dr. John Millctt. Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Oelman Hall A few miles east of Dayton is a tract of land recently annexed to the city of Fairborn. Only five short years ago these six hundred and eighteen acres were rolling pastures. But in 1963 this pasture land was broken and construction began on one of Ohio’s newest and most exciting centers of higher learning. Opening its doors in 1964, the Dayton Campus of Miami and The Ohio State Universities, offered higher education opportunities to personnel affiliated with Wright Patterson Air F'orcc Base and residents of the Miami Valley. The first students at IVayton Campus attended classes in Allyn Hall Regents, formerly president of Miami University. It contains an outstanding library complex in addition to numerous class- rooms and lecture halls. The Science and Engineering Building, the newest campus structure, has been named Fawcett Hall, in honor of Dr. Novice Fawcett, President of Ohio State University. In the beginning Millctt Hall Fawcett Hall Also under construction is a Uni- versity Center which will provide cafe- teria, lounge, and indoor recreational facilities for the students. All of these buildings are located on the western edge of the campus and form the first academic courtyard at Wright State Campus. The Dayton Campus began with 3779 students in 1964. By 1965 the enroll ment grew to a total of 5077 and the University Center General Assembly of the State of Ohio Passed legislation which allowed the Dayton Campus to become Wright State Campus. Finally, as its growing pains got too big, the Campus was granted its independence on Octo- ber 1, 1967. Celebrating Independence Now as a full-fledged University provisionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, its enrollment continues to soar. Plans have been made for dormitories to be started in the near future and before long the entire Wright State University will no longer be an architect’s dream, but a beautiful actuality. All Wright State students recognize him as Dr. Bragc Golding. Me received his B. S. in Chemical Engineering in 19 11 and his Ph.D. in 19 18 from Purdue University after which he joined the Lilly Varnish Company as Director of Research. During this same time he served as Visiting Professor of Engineering at Purdue and became a widely recognized authority in the plastics industry. Me has written several technical booklets and one book, Polymers and Resins. Dr. Golding terminated his association with the busi- ness world after eleven years and became head of the School of Engineering at his alma mater in 1959.
