DEDICATION FOR 25 eMi' ChcmJchnj 1964 1965 19651966 1966-1967 Twenty-five years ago, Mr. Dan Charlton began teaching busi- ness education in Wright City High School. In celebration of his anniversary, the 1987-88 yearbook is being dedicated to him. When Mr. Charlton began his teaching career in Wright City, he was one of ten teachers at the school. Even though the school population has grown over the years, he claimed that his classes have basically remained the same size. Mr. Charlton attended Murray State University, in Murray Ken- tucky. His major area of study in college was business. His deci- sion to teach business education was made in high school. Some people consider Mr. Charlton a difficult teacher, but he feels that he is a typical business teacher. Since his classes are electives, he feels that the students are there because they chose to be and they decide their grades by the efforts they put forth on their studies. Being a business teacher, Mr. Charlton often notices typing or other errors — like those in the daily announcements, for exam- ple. He admitted that he has, on occasions, brought these errors to the attention of the office. All in good humor, of course. Mr. Charlton claimed that he feels very proud when a student who has been in one of his classes decides upon a business major in college or a business related job. He also added some advice for prospective shorthand students: eat, sleep, and drink shorthand, if you want to do well. Mr. Charlton feels that Wright City High School does a good job in preparing its students for college. He said that the size of the school limits a wider variety of classes, but the size also allows for a better teacher student relationship than it would if the school were larger. Even though the school population has greatly increased since he first began teaching, the need for additional business teachers has not been necessary and he does not feel that it ever will. Mr. Charlton stated that he has been very happy with his job here in Wright City and he has no future plans of retirement. He said he plans on teaching for at least another fifteen years or so 1985- 19S4 1982-1983 1978-1979 4 1968-1969 1987-1988 1971-1972
