C. H. S. Their first official act was to elect class officers. They were: Frances Null, president; Betty Stamer, vice-president; Lois Feix, secretary-treasurer; and Lois Feix and Lonnie Williams, student council. Our sponsor, Mr. Nienheuser gave us much assistance in all activities. After being properly initiated they settled down to everyday high school life. The class showed it had a great future by the following deeds: Lonnie Williams was elected vice-president of the F. F. A. He was the first Freshman ever to be elected to an office in the F. F. A. Betty Stamer and Terry Shortal were elected Queen and King of the School Carnival, as the class brought in an impressive 9,000 points. At the end of the Freshman year, they had a balance of a little over $100.00 in the class treasury. A good start indeed! They returned in September of 1952 elated at not being low Freshmen anymore and determined to make things rough on the Freshmen. But first class officers had to be elected. The following were elected: Lester Sontag, president; Bonnie Barklage, vice- president; Terry Shortal, secretary-treasurer; Shirley Milan, reporter; and Betty Stamer and George Jaeger, student council. After initiating the Freshmen we showed we still loved them by giving them a hay- ride and a wiener roast. Under the leadership of Miss Joslin, their sponsor, the class prospered, and at the end of the year had a cash balance of $192.02. At last they were upperclassmen. The big seven chosen as officers were: Lonnie Williams, president; Marvel Park, vice-president; Lester Sontag, secretary; Betty Stamer, treasurer; Lois Feix, reporter; and Marilyn Hunt and Marvin Schubert, student council. Miss Stuart was our capable sponsor. Planning ahead for their prom, they immediately engaged in money-making activities which netted them enough money to give the Seniors the finest prom ever given at W. C. H. S. It started out with a banquet at Davis Restaurant and finished up with a dance in the beautifully decorated gymnasium. The theme was “Garden of Friendship’’. The whole group enjoyed dancing to the music of Club Royale Orchestra. Our Junior Play was entitled, “Murder With Orchids’’. Seniors at last, this group of ambitious young people who have seemed more closely united than most classes, elected as officers: Lester Sontag, president; Terry Shortal, vice-president; Lois Feix, secretary; Betty Stamer, treasurer; and Frances Null and Lonnie Williams, student council. Mrs. Walker was our Senior sponsor. Determined to have at least $500.00 for a Senior trip, we have had various activities to accomplish this end. Our play for this year, “Damsels In Distress” will, we hope, complete our financial program for the year, and let us have the last six weeks of school to prepare ourselves for commencement and our long-looked-for, Senior Trip! Senior Class Will We, the Senior Class of Wright City High School, City of Wright City, County of Warren; State of Missouri, Country of United States, Continent of America, Planet Earth; being of sound mind and body, knowing that the end is near, do will and bequeath the following: ARTICLE I We, the Seniors of 1955, do will to the faculty the memories of our accomplishments which have been great and numerous. ARTICLE II To the future Seniors of W. C. H. S. we will our ability to come into home room late or not get there at all. ARTICLE III To the future Juniors, we will our ability to give the biggest and best prom in school history. ARTICLE IV To the Sophomores we will our ability to make money. ARTICLE V To the Freshmen we will our studious efforts, initiative and drive. ARTICLE VI To the student body we will our leadership ability with the hope that it may grow and prosper with them as it did with us. ARTICLE VII I, Bonnie Barklage, will my graceful mein on the basketball court to Toodley Mikus. May she keep the floor as well polished as I have done. I, Bob Cook, will my five study halls to Charles Schnick to add to his present three with hope that he will have time to prepare for his remaining classes. I, Veva Dalton, will my ability to get in trouble and go to the office more than five times a year to Mary Jane Klausmeier. I, Lois Feix, will my ability as an accomplished pianist and position as accompanist for glee club, soloists, etc. to Jimmy Vessels. I also will my deep appreciation for classical music to Earl Requat. I, Marilyn Hunt, leave my place on the basketball team to Barbara Tomek. The sittings not strenous and the splinters are worn smooth! I, George Jaeger leave my ability to aggravate Mrs. Stamer and my driving ability to Neal Ordelheide. I, Darline Nistendirk, will my loud voice and aggressiveness to Leora Uthe. I, Frances Null, leave my ability to go steady with a boy longer than two weeks to Phyllis Sherrill. I, Donald Oney, will my size 12 shoes to Leroy Yount. May he have future use for them. I, Marvel Park, will my dirty basketball socks to Sharon Harms. May she use them in games more than I did. I also will my long hair to Shelton Singer. I, Marvin Schubert, will my entire swine herd to Paula Stamer. I, Jeanne Seger, will my ability to do the fox trot to Tony Flake. (Make good use of it, T ony.) I, Mary Shelton, will my ability to always have something to do besides what I’m supposed to be doing to Geneva Barton. I, Terry Shortal, leave my broken sets of teeth and my ability to raise pigs to Paul Dillon. I, Lester Sontag, will my ability on the trumpet and the callouses on my hands from practicing to Eldon Ambuehl. Use it faithfully. I, Betty Stamer, leave the school intestate, having nothing to spare. I, Lonnie Williams, leave my ability to make the highest grades possible on the least amount of work to Dwayne Garrett. Senior Class Prophecy The soothing sound of students voices as they discussed the events of the previous night’s ball game, and the gentle swaying of the bus as it took us to the final game of the season, caused me to doze off for a few minutes. Probably hearing their voices subconsciously caused me to dream of them. The time was present and the scene was in the mystic realm of a soothsayer’s inner-sanctum. The soft, sibilant voice of the sloe-eyed reader-of-the-future seemed to come from a great distance as she rythmi- cally passed her hands back and forth before the crystal ball and droned out the following prophetic words. “I see Bonnie as a nurse for the France Foreign Legion where no questions are asked and where all her old bruises have finally healed.” “Bob will be a boy scout leader and president of the school board -- a sort of masculine Carrie Nation.” “Veva has settled down on a farm and when she goes into the city the good-time boys call her the ‘big-butter-and-egg-gal . ” “Lois won a Liberace contest for candelabra girl and stands in the wings during his programs waiting for him to have a lapse of memory.” “Marilyn had entered politics, had been elected the first woman mayor of Wright City and later the sheriff of Warren County --a regular Annie Oakley.” “George had invented a reducing pill that was so effective that he had become a jockey, winning the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, all in one year. (Of course, the horse will be along, too.)” “Darline will do under-cover work for the Internal Revenue Department, checking up on income tax evaders, moonshine distilleries, counterfeiters, etc. She was a little afraid she might have to investigate some of her classmates, but so far she finds them all O. K. ” “Donald will be attaxi driver to cover up his activities as a “private eye.” “Marvel will operate a mountain lodge in summer and will be a fur trapper in winter.” “Marvin will buy Sky-Line, add the “Club 40”, wear a flower in his lapel, and be one of the most sought after bachelors in the Mid-west.” “Nellie will be a hard-boiled guard in the women’s wing of the state penal institution. “Mary will be a test pilot for the Mexican government, testing rocket ships.” “Terry will be a star of the Muny Opera, but will develop the fear that the St. Louis night air will ruin his throat. He will sling a guitar over his shoulder, don a satin shirt, velvet pants, and red cumberbund, and become a strolling troubadour in the night spots of Old New Orleans.” “Lester and Frances have a program on T. V. (educational channel) training cheerleaders. They were in the same class with Mata and Hari and Arthur and Kathryn.” “Betty will operate a successful shop for tall girls and boys, remembering the trouble she had finding dresses her length and Terry’s trouble with shirt tails.” “Lonnie will do a stint in the Merchant Marines and then retire to an oasis in the Sahara Desert as far from water as possible. When asked why he drawls: “Too much water isn’t good for a fellow.” I was suddenly aware that the voice had changed and I looked up to find Mr. Jones saying, “Well, here we are, kids, ready for another victory for good old W. C. H. S.”, and I realized that for the past few minutes I had been in a land of my own. 16 18 JUNIOR CLASS EARL REQUAT JANICE HARMS MR.
