Class History of 57 Early in September nineteen hundred and forty-five there were twenty-three members welcomed to Wren school. Our teacher was Miss E. Comes. Our second year the teacher was Mrs. F. Schaadt. We gained one member, lost one. making a total of twenty-four. Our third year, we had Mrs. Jason Moser. We lost four and gained two, which made a total of ZZ. Our fourth year, we had Mrs. Jason Moser as our teacher. We lost one, making a total of 21. Our fifth year, we had Mr. Rupp. We gained one member making a total of ZZ. Our sixth year we had Mr. Rupp as teacher . We lost 3 and gained 3 making a total of ZZ. Our seventh year, Mr. Bud Monroe was our sponsor, we lost 6, gained Z making a total of 18. Our eighth year, our sponsor was Mrs. Durst, we gained one. We took our state tests that year. Our Freshman year we lost 3 and gained Jack Myers and Ronnie Lautzenheiser making a total of 18. Our sponsor was Mr. Owen Roberts. We were initiated by the Sophomores. Our Sophomore year our sponsor was Mr. Owen Roberts. We lost two, gained one, mak- ing a total of 17. We initiated the freshmen and gave them a party in the evening. We will always remember our Junior year, our sponsor was Miss Mary Neer. Our class play was Hillbilly Courtship , we had wonderful times practicing. We worked very hard on our Junior-Senior Prom, which was Song of the lsland . We lost one making a total of six- teen. Happily, we entered our senior year, Mrs. Eddie Sheets and Mr. Kreischer were our sponsors. We lost one making a total of fourteen. We worked very hard on our annual the Eagle , We also served at the Farmer's Institute in which we made some money. We selected our class play Good Gracious Grandma. We are now starting practice on it. We hope to have a successful play. Barbara Dudgeon was nominated as our candidate for Peony Queen. The Class Prophecy of 1957 Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Texans, and Fellow W. V.H.S. 'ers, if you want to get away from the dull, dreary, ways of 1957, come spend an exciting evening on the Eagle Queen Showboat. As you board the Eagle Queen, you can see the following former students of the Class of 1957 from dear ole W. V.H.S. First we shall introduce to you the owner and co-owner of the Eagle Queen. Lola Beard is handling the hostess duties for Kenny Smith captain of the entertainment tub. Now as you come onto the deck you see the famous barber, Ronnie Hakes. He is assisted by Doyle Garwood. Ronnie draws the crowd: Doyle opens the door and pushes them in. After you are in, you can check your hats and coats with Barb Dudgeon who sees that your hats and coats are safe from destruction. lf there is any trouble, it will be taken care of by bouncers Dave Myers, Kenny Smith fdoubling on dutiesl and Lola Beard serving as hostess coming and going. And, of course, at the card tables you will see several card sharks. You will see these dealers drifting from job to job. They are Head Dealer Ronnie Lautzenheiser supported by Rudy Salazar, Ronnie Hakes, and Doyle Garwood fRonnie and Doyle come in to assist when the Queen is filled to the railsl. There is no necessity for a captain since this is the finished product of the shop boys of the Class of 1957. No one ever knew what they were doing in shop all through their school years until they went down to the ST. Mary's River to launch the Queen, the only radar controlled entertainment boat in the world. ' 1 ' . Nu, O ' - I' v ' 1 B ' 4 'W On stage in song-bird style is seen and, of course, heard Mary Hurless known as the Singing Dietician. In addition to Mary, there is billed a fashion and dance sensation who has taken the entertainment world by storm. Who else! None other than Elaine Smith. Mary Case handles the cashier duties and cashing of winners chips at the end of the grand tour. Mary also covers the activities of the Eagle Queen for the Boat News, a weekly newspaper printed and edited this rapidly growing journalistic project. Furnishing the music for the drifting and dreaming is that greatest of Rock'n Roll band director, Jack Myers and his Jumpin' Jacks. There are two of the class members that will be absent due to previously planned endeavors. Marion Rickard has taken over business at Middlebury and Dean Vanover has landed on the shores of Tripoli in song: secret mission for the U. S. Marines. These items were noted in the Boat News which came off the press just before the Eagle Queen got under way. You have been on board the Eagle Queen Showboat. We hope that you have enjoyed your brief visit with the Class of 1957. Senior Class Will We, the seniors, have been told we must leave this fair world. Which now we leave our few things we do have. The past hasn't been so easy but we've almost attained the goal of becoming Seniors. Doyt Sheets is our President, Rex Miller is our Vice President, and Sharon Diehl is our Secretary - Treasurer. Undcr their leadership, our Class has really been busy this year. We gave our Junior Class Play October 19, entitled Boardinghouse Reach . It was work but we had a lot of fun too. We've also been selling jello, having bake sales, and serving at basketball games. Now we're beginning to work on the Prom. Work isn't all we've been doing though. We went to a hockey game and got our class rings this year after looking forward to it for years. Y ' - 'A 4- - 4 r G 1 . 1, . Q Q Q Q Q r X V 'J Q, ,L Q Q a Q, Q . Junior Class Play The Junior Class of 1957 presented their Junior Class Play, Hillbilly Courtship, directed by Mrs. Schaffner. Junior and enior Prom The 1955 Junior and Senior Prom was held May ll in the school gym. The theme was Song of B Island. The gym was decorated with navy and light blue crepe paper. A beach scene, which was our main attraction, was at one end ofthe gym. The servers, who were dressed as hula dancers, made their entrance through a little hut. After the banquet and program everyone danced to the music of Gene Chronister and his orchestra. Senior Class News Today we follow, tomorrow we lead was the motto chosen by the Seniors. Blue and white were chosen as class colors and white carnations as class flower. We decided to leave on our class trip May Zl, the same night of our commencement. We leave Wren by bus Tuesday night and will arrive in Washington and leave Friday, May Z4, for New York. We will spend three days in New York. We expect to be back in Wren May 29, Plans and the selection of our class play have been made and the play is entitled, Good Gracious Grandma which is a comedy. It is to be presented on March Z9 at the school auditorium. GOOD GRACIOUS, GRANDMA Henry Breckenridge. . . ...........
