Modem- istic paneling and lighting make the entrance mighty attractive, Floor of the Month linoleum covers the old floor bulges and rolls and eliminates that drunken sailor feeling as you walk down the hall. Way back when high button shoes and fancy toupees were in style, Worthington High School was born. It was a mighty little school, occupying only two rooms in the grade building, but possessing a piano, water works and electricity. As the years Went by, our school grew and grew. Students increased in number, scholastic standards improved, and in 1909 the present building was con- structed. But the growing pains didn't stop then. Ad- ditional wings to right and left granted more space. In 1931 the auditorium and gymnasium were added. Rejuvenation and face lifting has helped erase the marks of time, but the increased school population has the building practically bursting at the seams. If our enrollment continues to increase, the school fathers will have to get their heads together to devise a scheme whereby more space may be acquired - or else provide sky hooks for the unwary student who can't run fast enough to get to class before all the seats are taken. 4 B GRAGKY, LU KE JWWA A L ,, ' ,ig , , tw L ww Wwwaww ,Q MM 'W W ff :f.,ffwf ,mf 1 ,Nw we. , SA ffl W LAND UGUSHEN TIMES HAVE REALL CHANGED Phy Ed QIPIS EISCHFEI EIOOHIEFS Ever hear the com ment What s th1s younger generatlon cornlng to That re- mark nnght well have been made for the benefrt of modern physlcal educatron classes where young grrls are permltted to run around wlth bared hmbs a perfectly d1s graceful thlng Wonder how grand maw could rnanlpulate around a basketball court 1n so much yardage End lung UIECH STDCHIIIQS 3? .-S' lt! Fifty years later the major problem remains the same. The first must on the Board's agenda is to either expand the high school or construct a junior high building. This may have been pre- sented to the voting public in the form of a bond issue by the time the Troian is published. All of us realize the crowded con- ditions in our school. We have been bumped and bruised in the crowded halls in our haste to go from the chem- istry lab to the band room or from the over-crowded choir room to Eng- lish class. Perhaps you ve noticed our future draftsmen in Mr. Osterberg s mechanical drawing class sitting on the window sills - there just isn t any other place for them! A lot of time thought and effort has been consumed by the Board members in planning the future school sites for future Worthington, com- pleting the fine athletic field, and handling routine affairs. Mr. W. H. Prouty, president of the Board of Education, expressed these thoughts to the staff members who in- terviewed him last fall. Our aim is to operate the Worthington Public Schools at the highest practicable level and to give the youth of this community every possible advantage in preparing them for later life. Each year an outstanding band is selected to present this concert, and there isn't a band in the state that could have felt more honored. The snappy marching band deserves a well-earned pat on the back after their grand appearances throughout the year. At the annual Tri-State Band Festival at Luverne, they carried home the first prize trophy. If anyone asks band members about parades they'll say, There's a million of 'em. Their schedule for this year in- cluded the Windom Flax Day parade, Fairmont King Korn Day parade, King Turkey Day parade, and the football homecoming parade. On election day they helped put across the slogan, Get out and Vote by marching through the city streets. Then in the cold, cold win- ter they marched down main street to let the public know The Worthington Story, the movie based on last year's prom, had come to town. 81 51 fl of J ff A - ff ST in Band wears turkey emblems Football season brmgs the greatest show of maneuvers to the surroundlng towns The band goes struttlng down the fleld at every game formmg letters, salutmg both teams, and honormg the cltlzens of Worthmgton by wearmg a turkey emblem on the1r arms Soon late fall, wmter, and at long last sprlng rolls around W1th the change of the season the band swltches from marches to overtures and presents the1r annual fall fes t1Val, wlnter, and sprlng concerts Some of the featured select1ons of the band are the Fmale from Symphony ln F Mmor No 4 Select1ons from Wagnerlan Operas, the overture, The Impressarlo, and Hlgh hghts from Fuuans Ra1nbow WOODWIND WONDERS consxstmg of a quartet- Jackle Nystrom Vxrgle Prouty Mardelle Dahl qulst and Jamce Helg plus a qumtet made up of Rosalxe Johnson Nancy Watrud Erleen Oppek Sandra Ehlers and Shrrley Funk tnot pictured? play a Bb before the concert begms A FIRST CLASS BAND rates a frrst class trophy Mr Nremeyer dlrector and Dorothy Larson band president adm1re the trophy awarded the band at the Trl State Marchlng Band Festryal held m Luverne QUARTETS IN PAIRS the fxrst row pictures the flute quartet Janet Brown Rosalie John son Patsy Albxnson and Janet Wxllemssen The back row features the woodwmd quartet Bob Darlmg Sandra Heath LaDee Atrops and Eileen Oppek 4- K I v ' . . . . , . , 1 x . . . Individual solos were taken by Matt Kingery, Edwin Rogers, Rollie John- son, JoAnne Greven, Pat Haberman, Terry Ball, Mardelle Dahlquist, La- Dee Atrops, and Dianna Doeden. He knew what Miss Williams meant to this school but he put his best foot for- ward and reached the goal he set. The students found he loved music enough to have fun at times and then turn serious, depending on the song.
