Cardinal Pride means something dif- ferent to everyone at Worthington High School. Introduced to the student body at the beginning of the 1986-87 school year. Cardinal Pride was meant to be a set of ideals for students to follow at WHS. Although rarely publicized, Car- dinal Pride is a reality at WHS and exam- ples of school spirit and respect can be found every day. East unit principal Marianne Rovnyak tried to embody the spirit of WHS by making each letter of Cardinal Pride stand for one of the stu- dent body's characters: C — cooperation, courtesy A — appropriate place and time R — respect rights and property of others D — I — in pride N — A — attitude L — learning As yet. nothing has been found for the letters D and N. but students are ur to give any ideas they may have to Rovnyak.  Cardinal Pride is a reality” such as its many traditions Although some WHS traditions appear to have little redeem- ing social value, such as toilet-papering the school, senior cut day, and burying the rock, these activities are looked forward to and re- membered for years after graduation. Other traditions at WHS have better-defined pur- poses. Some of these are the sale of spirit links and the four major dances Along with raising money, these activities provide opportunities for students to meet people and have a good time These, too are traditions which will be remembered for many years. The selection of Homecoming Queen, Cardinal King and Queen, and the Valentine King also provide special memories. Homecoming in particular creates a rally of school spirit with the elec- tions, floats, and the pep rally bonfire preced- ing the game, and the dance WHS is proud of its athletic program, and with good reason. The facilities at WHS are excellent, and many teams have captured state titles, such as the gymnastics team. The high school is known for its powerful athletes, and the football and basketball teams are just two examples of WHS's athletic prowess. Although sports are a large part of WHS, learning is what we're all about. Every year WHS has a large number of Ohio's Naitonal Merit Scholars. Worthington has always passed state inspections with flying colors, and offers students a wide variety of courses to choose from and extremely skilled teachers who care about their pupils. Above all, Worthington is a school full of di- versity and activity. The school's large size makes it possible for people to pursue their various interests Students are given indepen- dence and special priviledges. and have shown that they are worthy of the administra- tion's trust.
