Homecoming 19

mt On Friday. October 19. 1984. ■1 hundreds of Worthington High School students headed - to the movies. They didn’t go to the Continent, though. They went to the football sta dium for the annual homecom- w ing parade and football game. This year’s theme ’’Cards Go ■■ To The Movies” was very ap- w propriate as it is one activity that Worthington High School students do often. The festivities began on •= Thursday with the traditional pep rally and bonfire. The band and cheerleaders lead w the student body in the fight song, while the seniors shout £ ed their own victory cry for winning the spirit link compe- m tit ion. The sophomores pre- vailed on Friday night, though, for their class won the float competition. Our football team also won and added to « the excitement of the crown- ing of queen Betsy Patchen and her court: Deana Howes (senior attendant). Krisan Oberliesen (junior attendant). Michelle Mechling (sopho- w more attendant), and Jenny DuVall (freshman attendant). The festivities concluded on ■i Saturday night with a semi- ■I formal dance in the high school gym. The band ”N-V” provided the music and all en- w joyed themselves. By Rosemary Dop Top Here is the 1934 queen. Betsy Pat chen (center) and court, from left Jenny DuVall. This year’s fall play. Jabber- ■■ wock. presented on November 9 10. had a special interest to many residents of Columbus. ■■ The comedy is an autobio- graphical sketch of Columbus ■■ native James Thurber and is £ set in the capitol city. It was especially appropriate to the ■■ students since they have stud- ied Thurber in their American Literature courses and could understand his style of writ- ing. The play was chosen not ■■ only for these reasons, but also because there are a lot of opportunities for students to perform on stage in the pro- - duction. This is especially im- portant when more than 100 actors try out for a produc- tion. as was the case with Jab- — berwock. £ Jon Westguard was cast as James Thurber and Paul Wil- - kenson and Sara Johnston as his parents. Other important roles included: Rachel Harris portraying Georgiana Little- - field. Andy Reed as her father, and Mark Taylor and Brian £ Zumhagen as Thurber’s broth- ers. Jack Plotnick portrayed M Grandpa Fisher, who added many laughs to the play. Under the direction of Bron- wynn Hopton, the performers. as well as the back stage crew, made the Thespians’ perfor- mance of Jabberwock a huge success.
