Look, up in the sky, it's a bird... THE FIVE ‘‘D’S’’ Donna, Darryl, Donald, Duane, Dorothy Near the end of January, we were shocked to learn that Mr, Donald P, Doerle, who had been our Superintendent since 1958, was leaving our school to accept a new position inthe Dia- mond Lake district at Mundelein, Illinois, on February 1, Mr, Doerle came to Worden in 1956 as basketball coach, Two years later he became Superintendent, During these past nine and a half years, he has been an inspiration to all, upgrading the faculty, and seeing to it that the students received the best possible education, He was instrumental in getting a driver’s ed- ucation program started and adding much needed educational equipment in many de- partments, Saluting Mr, Doerle with this page is just one way of expressing our gratitude for all he has done, Dntintstration MR, JOE SHRUM Superintendent H, S, Principal Mathematics ae Qh dia Aw f BOARD OF Superintendent s Hlessaye Education is a wonderful thing--for those who have it. Education is the understanding of the workings of nature in the world around us and the ability to communicate under- standably with our neighbors, We ate blessed in America with the opportunity to obtain this treasured possession. I would like to challenge one and all to take fyll advantage’ of this opportunity during your stay at W.H.S, and to encourage you to obtain as much formal education as your ability allows after graduation. Included in their routines were a number of flips, splits, and other acrobatic stunts. During the summer, four of the girls attended a Cheerleading Camp at Arkansas State College. There they learned pom pom routines, cheers, and gymnastics. While they were there, they won one second place ribbon, two thirds, and an honorable mention in daily competition. At our first Christmas Tournament, our cheerleaders were voted best of the eight teams playing. At the conference coaches game, the girls were voted second in the conference. Two of the girls, Beth Ooton and Karen Heuchert, are leaving this year. Most of the girls will be back again next year and looking forward to a better year. HOMETOWN JOBS for hometown people With Rural Electricity All over America today, officials and members of consumer-owned rural electric systems such as ours, are working with local businessmen and civic leaders to help develop new industry. New industry means new jobs--home- town jobs... for hometown people. These jobs mean payrolls which help keep the wheels of commerce turning in our towns... and help check the economic erosion that threatens our rural communities. We are proud to be part of America's rural electrification program, serving our members and our communities, and helping to keep this nation econom- ically strong. SOUTHWESTERN ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC. Greenville, Illinois 62246 THE 1968 TROJAN STAFF Says ‘Thank You, Advertisers’’ It seems like only yesterday that 19 green little freshmen enrolled in high school. That was four years ago in 1964. Now in 1968, after losing a few and gaining a few, we are graduating with a total of 15. Our class has always been close-knit and energetic. Together we had many good times on our class trips to such places as Pilot Knob, Taum Sholt, Crab Orchard Lake, and our big Senior Trip to Mountain Home, Arkansas. While freshmen, we made programs to sell at the basketball games. Mr. Houck, our class sponsor for all four years, gave us this idea along with many more. For this we are deeply grateful to him. Valedictorian Now, as we receive our diplomas, we can KAREN HEUCHERT look back on all our good times as classmates, but also look forward to much more as we become adults and take our place in soci- ety.
