It is with the greatest cerity that we, the Class volume of the Prof. Charles M. Allen. Professor Allen, after 51 years of teaching at the Institute, retired from his position as head of Hydraulic Engineering on March first of this year. Tech students, of all the years he taught here, will remember his continually good natured manner and even those not so fortunate as to have studied under him will remember his fascinating “Gas Talk” which has through the years become an institution on Boynton Hill. In developing methods of testing and much other experimental work he has contributed a great deal to the field of hydraulics in addition to his teaching. We of Tech regret his loss from the teaching staff, but wish him the best of success in his future research at the Alden Laboratories.
