The tendency of a body at rest to remain so nearly snaps the necks off the trio as their car starts off with a teriffic burst of speed. ‘‘HEY,—you at the wheel, slow down.” Oh, it’s Sam— well, never mind—what? No, of course I don’t expect you to spoil your tradition, but . . . Thirty seconds later our car slams to a stop in front of Sanford Riley Hall and our new freshman is whisked into the dorm to meet face to face with Daddy, who in turn presents him to Gordie, faculty proctor in the dorm. After a good night’s sleep, Elmer strides bright and early to his first college class—a physics lecture in Kinnicut Hall.
