JOHN L. CA5LY I N July, 1882, started with the Albany Analine and Chemical Works as Assistant Chemist. In 1885 became Superintendent of the same, and remained with them until 1889, when the Works were destroyed by fire. Then I removed to New York where I was em¬ ployed as Consulting Chemist in the textile and paper industries until 1893. In that year I went to turope to make a special study of the chemistry of the leather industry, going first to Vienna and then to Freiberg, Saxony, where I worked out a mineral tan¬ ning process, which I disposed of to one of the largest German leather houses,— that of F. G. Sohee. Have been with this concern since January 1, 1896. Although the fourteen years that I have lived here have passed very rapidly, it is my intention to return to America at no distant date. Was married in 1897 to a Dresden lady.
