REDMEN ’75 WOONSOCKET HIGH SCHOOL Editor: Wes Andersen Assistant: Mary Hinker Woonsocket, South Dakota The Royalty awaits Coronation Royalty Regins in the Parade Homecoming ’74 The beat of the drum brought forth three lovely maidens and three strong braves on the evening of September 19. Six Senior girls provided the traditional songs, with Melanie Kogel singing Indian Love Call . Chief Chris Hinker and Princess Terri Ball were crowned Homecoming royalty. The Juniors entertained the royalty with the skit Nine Little Pigs . The burning of the W and a pep meeting followed the festivities, music provided by the WHS Pep band. The next day began with the parade at 1:30. The sophomores winning first place in float competition. The Wes- sington Springs and Forestburg bands ac- companied the WHS band in the parade. The Redmen stopped the Tulare Chief- tains 8-0 that night. A homecoming dance followed in the gym. The Alumni Banquet brought the 1974 Homecoming to an end on Sat- urday eveining. Juniors present skit, Nine Little Pigs Sophomores-The Winning Float Carnival 1974- Freshmen Reign The carnival this year was a time for lots of hard work. Each class tried to outdo the others in the battle to obtain their goal—having their candidates crowned King and Queen. The senior candidates were Gary Swenson and Cyndi Trudeau; the juniors worked for Mark Bittner and Kathy Berg; the sophomores earned for Bob Knigge and Caryn Moe; and the freshmen really out did themselves in order to have their candidates, Jack Davis and Shelly Schlicht named as King Jack and Queen Shelly. They raised over $900 in their winning effort. This year, because of the high price of everything, there were no bake sales or candy sales. But in spite of this, the classes of W.H.S. raised almost $1,500 through such ac- tivities as paper drives, raking leaves, washing windows, painting, and of course selling chances. Yes, carnival '74 was indeed a busy time. 5 Prom Junior Class President 8 9 SUPERINTENDENT William Jiricek Advanced Algebra GUIDANCE COUNCILOR Edythe Basham SECRETARY Joyce Perrman SECRETARY Marian Andersen PRINCIPAL Jens Andree Government Football P. Two's enough, Wherever I go In my search for ecstacy You are linked to me— I know your door will be open. Skip day 1975 was a day that opened the doors of the hearts of the classmates of 1975 to each other. It was a day of sharing fun and laughter, a day of learning what each class- mate was really like, a day of togetherness before each would go his separate way. Skip day was spent in Souix Falls shopping, swimming, relaxing, roller-skating. It was a day spent making memories that will never be forgotten. The class was drawn together once more before being drawn apart, bringing the realiza- tion of how much each would miss the others. 20 The Senior Class of 1975. Gayle, could you speak up a little more? I can hardly hear you. The ,74-,75 school year found an interesting new student at W.H.S. Rosalinda Angeles became a member of our student body through the Youth For Understanding program. Rosa arrived August 19 and lived with the Arnold Zimmerman family until mid-July. She had completed her studies in primary and secondary schools in Mexico City and came to Woonsocket in order to increase her English vocabulary. In Mexico it has become very important to be bilingual--especially in the career Rose has select- ed, something in the line of tourist aid either with an airline or a tourist agency. When she re- turns to Mexico, she plans to begin training for such a career. One of her most interesting hobbies is that of dancing the folk dances of Mexico, which she has been doing since the age of three. She has five sisters and one brother. Her father is a jeweler. While in Woonsocket she saw her first snow and plenty of it. She said she would like to return for a visit but not when it is cold! Don't be shy! And shy they weren't. They walked away with honors at the '74 carnival with a total $965.40. The new King and Queen were Shelly Schlicht and Jack Davis. Earlier in the year, the frosh organized the burning of the W and captured second place with their float in the Homecoming Parade. The freshmen performed skits throughout the year, these included one at the community pep rally held before the regional basketball tournament. Sporting events saw freshmen football, wres- tling, boys' and girls' basketball and track team members working out hard. Now those are friends! Parts of one of their skits at high school pep rallies.
