District - Region - State ‘B’ R E D M E N Coach Team 2 Homecoming 1972 began with the beat of the tom-tom on the night of September 21. This was the time that the Class of '73 had waited for since the beginning of their high school days. It was THEIR candidates up for the honor of Chief and Princess of Ki-Yi days. The seniors chose Judy Andersen, Donna Knigge, Jody Crassel, Dan Hinder, Gary Jensen, and Bill Kilcoin as their royalty candidates. After entertainment by a group of girls from the WHS music department and a skit by the juniors, the big moment arrived. Cheif Dan Hinker and Princess Jody Crassel were chosen to reign over Homecoming 1972. Following the coronation the traditional bonfire and pep fest were held at the old ballpark. September 22 dawned - a hectic time - a time for last minute touch-ups on the floats, band prac- tice, no school. At one-thirty the WHS marching band led the parade down the streets of Woon- socket, with the seniors capturing first place honors with their float. That night, the mighty Redmen destroyed the Sunshine Bible Crusaders - 74 to 0 - on the gridiron to make it a perfect day. Homecoming 1972 had come and gone, but the Class of '73 will always remember when it was THEIR time to reign. 4 Seniors CLASS OFFICERS, ABOVE: Steve Keller, Vice-President; Cary Jensen, Student Council Rep.; and Bill Kilcoin, President. BE- LOW: Colleen Donahue, Secretary-Treasurer. Class of ’73 This is Their Time This was the time when the Class of '73 ruled for they were the mighty seniors. And what a time it was! An undefeated football season with the conference crown as the prize started this final year out. Next came basketball and with it came Conference, District, Region, and STATE B ! This year was a time for final con- certs, plays, prom, and plain old get- togethers. Finally the big moment arrived - the moment the Class of '73 had waited for, worked for, and hoped for - gradua- tion. Graduation marked the end of high school for the 37 seniors but it also marked the beginning of a new life, a new time. Juniors Their Time for Excitement Decisions Dreams JUNIORS - THEIR TIME is now a time of excitement, decisions, dreams and memories. A year full of activity and challenges, one which each and everyone looks forward to. One of the biggest topics during the year has got to be Class Rings! Decisions and then waiting - patiently! impat- iently? - each person being certain his or her ring will by far be the neatest! Then there's Mag- azines to sell - the more sold, the more earned - so everyone really gets out and works! Next is Carnival - a time of anxiety and hard work, trying to back their candidates, Jim and Karla, is a big project which takes lots of planning. Games - fun - vacations - books - teachers - study halls - all are part of the Junior year. Memories? Yes, time for those, too. The greatest being PROM - more decisions, planning, long hard hours, arguments - soft shades of colors, food, frills, suits, dancing . . . Pieces of April . . . Yes, this is truly a busy and exciting time for the Juniors. It is their BIG year, the year of 1973, the TIME they will always remember! ! 18 Dennis Hibbard Mary Sue Bissell Paul Kub Debbie Bies James Bollack Tim Roti Vicki Brueske Gayle Feistner Ed Murtha Brad Riggs Pat Brosnan Doug Olson Nick Steichen Pat Prins Ed Baruth Dennis Ohlrogge Jim Parker Dick Reg nski Mary Ann Rankin Lonne Senska Kevin Baysinger Jim Fristad Debra Bollinger Judy Dankey Debbie Rcider Karla O’Riley Margaret Vetter Kathy Weber Nancy Siedschlaw Gloria Schabot Pam Podhradsky Not Pictured Linda Thompson Karen Sonne Corwyn Tiede Sophomores Time of Biology Carnival Growth SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS: Clyde Mathis, Vice-President; Lee Ann Kringen, President; Kim Kistler, Student Council Representative; and Karen Brueske, Secretary-Treasurer. SOPHOMORES - Biology, carnival, growth. These are all terms connected with the Sophomores. This was THEIR TIME to show that they were now upperclassmen. They started off the year by electing Lee Ann Kringen, President; Clyde Mathis, Vice-Pres- ident; Karen Brueske, Secret ary-Treasurer; and Kim Kistler, Student Council Repre- sentative as their officers. Homecoming came and the Sophomores showed their talent by capturing second place in float competition. Next came carnival and the ambit- ious Sophomores spent hours selling chances, washing cars, and baking to earn money to support their candidates. Their time and patience were rewarded when Lee Ann Kringen and Kevin Dockter were named King and Queen of the 1972 Carnival. The Sophomores have grown wiser and more a part of Woonsocket High. This was THEIR TIME and what a time it was! 21 Kevin Dockter Mark Anderson Tom Cahill Chris Hinker Mike Permann Tim Steichen Larry Podhradsky DeWayne Hopkins Carnival 1972 This year's carnival was again a TIME of great rivalry between classes. October 12 was the time when each class began earning money, one trying to out do the other to enable their candidates to reign over the carnival. The freshman worked for Larry Murtha and Tina Kil- coin, the sophomores supported Kevin Dockter and Lee Ann Kringen, Jim Parker and Karla O'Riley were the junior candidates, and the seniors backed Chester Murtha and Lynn Parker. The big night finally arrived on October 28, the TIME for Woonsocket's 1972 Carnival to be held. Tension builds as rumors fly fast and furious, Seniors have the most money, No, the Freshman are going to win. Of course all of the disputes were settled once and for all when Mary Sue Bissell, the emcee, announced the winners. Seniors received fourth place, Juniors were third, then the moment of truth . . . the Freshman are second and reigning over our 1972 carnival are King Kevin and Queen Lee Ann. The Sophomores had topped all others by earning almost $600. 00. It was THEIR TIME. The time when the sophomores had reigned at the 1972 Carnival. CARNIVAL CANDIDATES AND ROYALTY: Freshman: Larry Murtha, Tina Kilcoin; Sopho- mores: Kevin Dockter, Lee Ann Kringen; Juniors: Jim Parker, Karla O'Riley; Seniors: Chester Murtha, Lynn Parker. 25 Freshmen Time of Changes Learning New Friendships FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS: Mary Beth Hinker, Student Council Representative; Jeff Van Leur, President; Cindy Niel- son, Vice-President; and Jeff Bockomy, Secret ary-Treasurer. FRESHMEN - This was THEIR TIME. It was a time of changes, learning, and new friend- ships. The little green Freshmen entered high school enthusiastically - not knowing what to expect, but ready for anything. They elected Jeff Van Leur, President; Cindy Nielson, Vice-President; Jeff Bockorny, Secretary -Treasurer; and Mary Beth Hinker, Student Council Representative to lead them throughout the year. Now they were ready to show everyone that they were a class with much ambition and spirit. The Frosh started off with Homecom- ing - building the bonfire, constructing a float, and practicing for the big game. Next came carnival. The Freshmen chose Tina Kilcoin and Larry Murtha as their candidates and through much hard w'ork they captured second place honors. The Freshmen progressed through the year becoming involved in, growing with, and being a part of Woonsocket High School. This was THEIR TIME - now they move forward as Sophomores. 26 Brian Bies Gregory Sonne Grant Bezpaletz Hank Kogel Marcia Waddington Susan Linke Sandra Goergen Carrie Moran Thomas Placek Jeff Van Leur Owen Kluksdahl Randy Larson Ronald Schabot Mary Beth Hinker Jim Clayton Teresa Zimmerman Kori Kappel Jeff Bockomy Tina Kilcom Douglas Codfrey Kathy Berg Jeff Borah Larry Murtha Becky Keller Cindy White Kay McDowall 't Lynda Wolter Debbie Verhey Not pictured: Susan Thompson Not pictured: Cindy Nielson FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Donna Knigge, Larry' Ball, Kim Kistler, Lee Ann Kringen, Gary Jensen, Billy Kilcoin, Sandy Larson, Donna Luthi, Mary Sue Bissell, Jeff Van Leur, and Mary Hinker. The Chorus, which was held at Huron in the Huron Arena, consisted of ap- proximately 1500 high school students from all over South Dakota. The event took place on November 3-4 with the final concert being held on November 4. Don Craig, a director from Western Connecticut College, was the Chorus conductor. Much time and hard work was involved in participating in this event, but it was well worth it. For Practice Song TENORS G BASSES G, Feistner L. Murtha W. Andersen M, Trudeau G, Bezpaletz C. Miller J.
