Seniors Kid darewell 1971 was a terrific year for the Seniors. Two of the sen- ior boys helped take our team to State B by defeating the No. 1 ranked team in the state. Hitchcock, and going on to beat arch-rival Wessington Springs, and spunky West Lyman at Ft. Pierre. The Seniors had been very busy all year, but the main e- vent to raise money for skip day was the production of Double in Diamonds . It was a big success, and lots of fun for the cast, stage crew and Mrs. Zimmerman. Sioux Falls was the destination of the skip day bound Sen- iors again this year. KISD seemed to be the favorite, al- though the eating places, Walt and Mary's and Here's John- ny's proved to be pretty popular, also! After tearing a- round all afternoon, a party was held at Twin Lakes. Pastor Carpenter officiated at the baccalaureate service on May 23 with the band playing the traditional Pomp and Circumstance for the Seniors march. On May 27, the Class of '71 took their final walk together as they filed past the crowd to receive those all-important diplomas. Guest speaker was Mr. Lloyd Duenwald. Mary Steichen and Brad Steichen received the Dzie awards for maintaining the highest grade point average during the sen- ior year. Two received the awards, but they and 36 others have many awards in memories of four years together at WHS.
