THE REDMEN WOONSOCKET HIGH WOONSOCKET SOUTH DAKOTA 1967 EDITOR - - Judy Asper ADVISOR - - Warren Thomas TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD ................... 3 STUDENT LIFE ............... 5 ADMINISTRATION .............13 ACTIVITIES..................... 17 CLASSES ....................... 51 ADS ........................... 67 2 FOREWORD Hi! I'm the littlest Redman. I'm here to take you on a tour of Woon- socket High School. No, I'm not a student here, only a mascot, but in a few years I'll be coming here every- day like the big kids. Well, come on, don't be so slow. I've got a lot of things to show you, and I don't want you to miss anyone or anything. 3 4 STUDENT LIFE As we walk through the halls of W. H. S., we shall see students running to classes, stopping to talk to friends, reading in the library, and waiting in line in front of the drinking fountain. This is al I a part of an average day at W. H. S. At special times of the year, the school day's schedule is interrupted for some special fun. Pep Club skits, Christmas programs, student elections, and class meetings are also a partof student life. 5 Let's go and see what the students are doing now. Upon their arrival in the capitol city they alighted from the bus and walked through the basement into the rotunda or the main lobby. Mr. Swenson, Sanborn County Representative, was paged and came down the main staircase to meet us. After a lunch at the St. Charles Hotel, the seniors, along with supervisors and the Legion- naires, who sponsored the trip, visited the Senate and House of Representatives in action. They were privileged to witness a special joint session in which National V. F.W. Commander Leslie Fry was the main speaker. All in all the day was not only an enjoyable one, but also one of the most informative days the seniors have ever spent. 8 HOME EC. STUDENTS ARE KEPT BUSY Back Row, standing left to right: P. H.S. offers its students a wide curriculum of subjects and activities. The responsibility of providing a modern education for the students of W. H. S., falls upon the shoulders of the administration. Although students may criticize the faculty at times for unending assignments and unpopular tests, they realize that these teachers are preparing them for the future. Now, let me introduce you to the administration. 13 PREPARATION FOR THE FUTURE ' School Board. He is also a bus driver. Mr. Howard Taylor, not pictured, is the custodian of both the grade and high school and has done his job well this year. 16 School at W. H. S. is not all study ing and hard work. The administration has set aside certain periods of the day to enable the student body to participate in various extracurricular activities. The students here have a competitive spirit. They rise early for band to pre- pare for a forthcoming contest; they practice hours after school to ready themselves for that next big football game; they form a loyal Pep Club to cheer their Redmen to victory. Let me show you the spirit and en- thusiasm of these groups as they per- form and compete. This group was busy taking pictures of the W. H.S. activities. These pictures had to be sorted, choosing only the best ones, and filed with a copy story. The pictures had to be measured, cut, and pasted along with the copy on layout sheets. The result of this toil was the 1967 Redmen for Woonsocket High School. The money used for the production of these books was raised by selling ads, running concessions at basketball games, and by the purchase of annuals by the students. 20 PAPER STAFF EDITS “ ” The Woonsocket High School paper, the Smoke Signals, is published once a month. It brings to the students the activities of the past month and a list of those to come. H.S., whether seniors, juniors, sophomores, or freshmen, each class is important. Each class has its own particular talents and interests which it shares with the rest of the student body. The unwary freshmen enter high school enthusiastically looking forward to the events of the next four years. The sophomores, accustomed to high school life, move into the main assembly to accept the responsibility of their position. The juniors present their class play to earn money for one of the biggest events of the school year, the Junior-Senior Prom. The seniors, after four memorable years, dressed in caps and gowns, receive their diplomas at commencement. Would you like to meet the members of the student body? The junior play, concessions at ball games, a magazine drive, car washes, and bake sales all added to their monetary wealth as the school year progressed. The junior play cast rehearsed diligently to prepare the play, entitled Call Me Darling, which was held on November 9, 1966. After many hours of planning and a week of decorating work, the juniors entertained the seniors with a beautiful prom and banquet on April 29th. 56 FOR THE JUNIORS Bill Ball, president Allision Tiede, vice-president Roche le Wo I ter, Student Council representative Teresa Scherschligt, secretary-treasurer 57 THE CLASS OF 1967 Robert Donkey President FLOWER Carnation Mary Hendrick Vice-President MOTTO The Past Is Gone Forever, the Future Is Still Ours.
