Homecoming King Candidate V. 9 On September, 1950, twenty-eight students were enrolled in the freshman class. Members of the class were: Darwin Peterson, Myron Beintema, James Davis, Thomas McCoy, Robert Merkle, Gordon Kappel, James Jenssen, Wallace Rauch, James Forbes, James McCoy, Richard Sweeney, Bernard Ashfeld, Virginia Baysinger, Mary Ellen Hollings- worth, Robert Brewer, Barbara Barstead, Janet Gutzmer, Janette Steichen, Katherine Houlihan, Theresa Howard, Lois Druse, Lila Feistner, Letha Jenssen, Marva Rumelhart, Judy Ritter, Evelyn Lang, Betty Vallen, Junior Jenssen, Class Advisor was Keith Warne. Virginia Baysinger transferred to Forestburg High School at the end of the year. Letha Jenssen transferred to Alpena. Class officers were: President, Janet Gutzmer: Vice-President, Theresa Howard; Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Ellen Hollingsworth. Carni- val King and Queen candidates were Robert Brewer and Theresa Howard. During the Sophomoxe year, class officers were: Gordon Kappel, President; Jim McCoy, Vice-President; Jim Davis, Secretary-Treasurer. Robert Merkle discontinued school and Myron Deintema transferred to Forestburg High School. Jim McCoy and Janet Gutzmer were Carnival King and Queen. Lila Feistner continued school at Augustana Academy. In their junior year, the class officers were: Theresa Howard, President; Katherine Houlihan, Vice-President; Janette Steichen, Secretary-Treasurer. Gordon Kappel was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Student Body. Janet Gutzmer discontinued school at the end of this year and Darlene Wells transferred to Huron High School. Senior enrollment was twenty-one this year. Jim Forbes and Theresa Howard were chosen King and Queen to reign over W. H. S. Ki Yi Day. Class officers were: President, Jim Forbes; Vice-Presi- dent, Jim McCoy; and Secretary-Treasurer, Lois Druse. Class officers were Mary Lou Emerson, president; Delvin Feistner, vice-president; and Margy Brewster, secretary-treasure. Ronnie Marsh was elected vice-president and Mary Allen Paulson, secretary- treasurer of the student body. The class was able to raise the largest amount of money for the carnival, winning the honor of having their candidates, Tom Steichen and Margy Brewster, crowned king and queen. Juniors that participated in declam were Wanda Rumel- hart, William Schroeder, and Sharilyn Schlicht. Mary Lou Emerson acted as assistant-editor on the annual staff. Others working on the staff are Aubrey Fisher and Tom Steichen. Mary Allen Paulson was assistant- editor of the Hi-Life Staff. Tom Steichen and Aubrey Fisher also worked on the staff. The boys that lettered in football were Ronnie Marsh, Aubrey Fisher, Richard Parsons, Hubert Scott, and Ronald Goeman. Gordon Haugen and Duane Pickinpaugh dis- continued school the first semester and Robert Thompson transferred to Hot Springs, South Dakota during the second semester. Allen Hegg was the only new student. Class officers were Dan Horan, president; Leon Eddy, vice-presi- dent; and Anita Wolf, secretary-treasurer. Class advisor was Mr. Vance. Those who participated in declam were Mary Brewer, Dan Moran, and Blanche Faber. Marilyn Ammon, Anita Wolf and Louise Hines were on the Redman Staff. Those on the High-Life Staff were Mary Jo Ball, Mary Brewer, Virginia Taylor and Louise Hines. Dan Moran and Anita Wolf were carnival king and queen candidates. The total receipts from the sophomore caass were $82.39 Those who lettered in football .were Dan Moran, Bob Brown, George Fuerst, and Wendell Ferguson. Class officers were Tom Brisbine, president; Mary Jane Ferguson, Vice-Presi- dent; and Terry Beddow, secretary-treasurer. Joan Brewster was on the Redman Staff. Those on the Hi-Life Staff were Phyllis Baseman and Audrey Brown. Joan Brewster and Marilyn Gutzmer participated in declam work. The Freshman raised $102.07 for the carnival. Aubrey Fisher 5 9 Junior Guard Wendell Ferguson 6'2 Sophomore Center Richard Parsons 6' Junior Forward HOMECOMING QUEEN Theresa Howard KING James Forbes Woonsocket High School's second annual Homecoming, Ki Yi Day, was held Friday, October 23, 1953 A bonfire and pep rally on the school grounds began the festivities on Thursday evening. A snake dance, through the business district followed and brought the evening to a close. Coronation ceremonies were held in the City Auditorium, Friday morning, at which Jim Forbes and Theresa Howard were crowned King and Queen. The parade Friday afternoon was led by the Legion Color Guard, and consisted of twirlers, band, and floats. Following the parade was a football game between the Letcher Tigers and the Redmen. The afternoon's activities ended Joyously as the Redmen won by a 32-19 score. Alumni and students gathered in the Parish Hall, at 6:30, for the Alumni Banquet. Gordon Kappel, President of the Student Body, was Master of Ceremonies and Mr. T. R. Brisbine gave a brief speech. A dance, sponsored by the American Legion, concluded the Homecoming Day. Several instrumental and vocal soloists attended Regional contests at Kimball in February, with the larger groups entering the Regional Contest at Mitchell in April.
