bogs’ nuthonr track Although the Boys' Outdoor Track team did not have a successful season, it had some successful individuals. Senior Scott Duarte made All-State in the triple jump. His leap of AWlVi” was not only the second best ever in the state, but was the tenth best jump in the whole country last year. Scott finished second in the State's and third in the New England's. Others who contributed greatly to the team were graduates john Duarte, Marc Peloquin, senior Mike Bannon, and junior Dan Boisvert. The team lost its one dual meet against Barrington. hogs’ tennis Tennis certainly was not one of Woonsocket High School's stronger teams. A 4-3 victory over North Smithfield was the highlight of the season as the team finished with a 1-7 record. girls’ nutbonr track The Girls' Track team opened everyone's eyes last year. The highlight of their 6-2 season was finishing third in the state meet by only nine points. The Novans took four first place finishes and one second, out of the six events that they participated in. Graduate Karen St. Pierre (Cocaptain) won both the 1500 and 3000 meter runs, while senior Chris Beaudry easily grabbed the 400 meter dash. The 4 x 400 meter relay team consisting of graduate Patricia Hession (Co-captain), and seniors Chris Beaudry, Judy Marcinkiewicz, and Barbara Morrisseau, also took a state title. Barbara Morisseau also placed second in the javelin throw. As a result Woonsocket High had more girls than any other school named to the All-State team. Senior Mickey Gauvin also had a strong season in the shot put and discus. She was also a key factor in helping the Novans win a third place finish in their division.
