So why bother? , the Quiver editors and staff unwittingly took on the task of producing the 1976 edition of the yearbook. Unfortunately, Fall brought to most students and teachers the infamous disease known as camera-itis , which sent the photography (?) staff on a wild goose chase around the school searching for candids. Meanwhile, the first deadline was met (1 month late). And at last folks, here it is! — your very own 1976 Quiver. Co-editors Leonard Roberts and Elizabeth Vangel Editors: Mike Jasmin, Joanne Heffernan, Carol Hogue, Gail Durand, Carol Lanctot, Joe Nadeau, Jeanne Ouellette and Richard Piette Staff: 1ST ROW: Diane Buteau, Diane Lafrenaye, Gail Durand; 2ND ROW: Elizabeth Hemond, Jackie Laquerre, Carol Duhamel, Yvonne Giard, Kathy Plouffe, Janice Harpin, Gerry Nadeau, Carolyn Russ 30 Villa Novan Villa Novan Staff: Carol Lanctot, Joanne Heffernan, Elaine Hoyceanyls, Marcel Pincince, Anne Fontaine Robert Rainville, Jeannine Barrette, Jeanne Ouellette, Bonnie St. Germain We of the Villa Novan staff, being excessively observant by nature, have noticed the growing abnormal level of student apathy at Woonsocket Senior High. In the hope of avoiding a major catastrophe, this resourcefuK?) staff (notably its editor pictured aside) has implemented several ploys in order to elicit some response and at the same time rouse the bloody pot of controversy. Additions such as point-counter-point, coming events, gory sports writing (in which the editor of this staff of assorted un-dependables literally spills his guts), amusing pieces of satire, exciting articles tracing our proud past (all bloody-well boring actually!), devishly well-done cartoons and interesting, if not adequate coverage of your general all-around bilge. 31 This has been bloody-well censored. Oak Many creative and imaginative writers contribute to the Oak, Woonsocket High's literary magazine. Mr. Brunelle and Mrs. Sooy are the advisors who spend long hours insuring that the creativity of Woonsocket High School students has an outlet for expression. Included in the Oak are such features as sketches, illustrations, and comic strips, along with essays and poetry. 1ST ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Gail Durand, Joelle Thonnard, Don Sutherland. 2ND ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Roger Mencarini, Dave Hodell, Elaine Hoyceanyls, Joanne Heffernan, Bill Kubaska. 3RD ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Carol Lanctot, Janice Paquette, Jeanne Ouellette, Norm Decelles, Sue Poulette, Bob Martel, 32 MERIT FINALISTS: Richard Fellman and Joanne Heffer-nan Merit And Civic Awards BETTY CROCKER FAMILY LEADER OF TOMORROW WINNER: Bonnie St. Germain MERIT COMMENDED STUDENTS: 1ST ROW: Richard Piette, Sally Esten, 2ND ROW: Carl Brunetti, Caeol Lanctot; MISSING: Richard 33 Dubois, Elizabeth Vangel Student Council The Student Council is composed of representatives from each homeroom. The Council has sponsored many activities this year to bring the student body together, such as Dress-up Day, which encourages students to dress-up in any way they wanted or could think of. The councilors also were in charge of the school spirit week, planning a different activity for each day. Besides the fun and games, the Student Council has had a successful student exchange program with different schools. This year the Student Council hosted a state-wide Student Council meeting which had representatives from all over the state in attendance. At the very least the Student Council has been an asset in promoting school spirit. Members of the club visit local elementary school, and have the opportunity to work as teacher's aids. These students may also attend tours of nearby colleges and schools. Mr. Lantner serves as faculty advisor. The only requirement to join the newly formed Camera club is an interest in photography. Members range from the experienced photographer, with complex equipment, to the novice, who may own no camera equipment at all. During club meetings members look over portfolios of weel-known photographers, and also their own work, to evaluate, criticize and learn from others experience. These students, with the aid of advisor Mr. Haines, not only learn the basics and fine points of photography, but also the techniques os developing and handling film, in the school darkroom. The majorettes have earned the respect and gratitude of their fellow students for the many successful performances they have given while representing Woonsocket High School.
