Only ten cities in the entire country were so dis- tinguished. Small wonder that we, the younger generation, should take pride in our elders for their zeal in making Woonsocket a better place in which to live. What better example could we emulate? Let's think of Woonsocket High as an All-American School. .XG .-ig XXXXWllIIlllllll III TABLE UF CONTENTS ...l.l4 +-,i- Qulvlik itn if-Blemurp of THERESA PEREIRA 53 who drowned In a vcun attempt to save her friend Her own young life to save a friend And words enough can ne er be penned To loud an act so brave All those who knew her sunny smlle And saw her golden hour Stull thunk of her with musty eyes And breathe her name In prayer By Sylvia Ferris 55 6 1' ' 1 I So dauntlessly she gave, I THE FACULTY Like the city officials, who are con- stantly thinking of the welfare of the community, our faculty is ever con- scious of its responsibility for the well- being of the youth entrusted to them. With an inexperienced squad made up chiefly of iuniors and freshmen, the outlook for the 1953 edi- tion of our football team looked black. But, as in past years, the guiding influence of our coach, Gus Savaria, became more apparent as the season pro- gressed. Although Woonsocket terminated the sea- son with a satisfactory league record of three wins and four losses, we expect the results of Mr. Savaria's rebuilding program to culminate in l954. Woonsocket 44 - Westerly 89 Leading throughout, Westerly romped over Woon- socket-Morriseau and Desrosiers outstanding. Woonsocket 45 - Pawtucket West 65 Good third period by Villa Novans was not nearly enough to stall the Rangers from Pawtucket-Great playing by Morrisseau who talled 22 points. Woonsocket 44 - East Providence 77 Minus Buttach and Desrosiers the victory-starved Villa Novans pulled into an early lead - After leading 15-10 at the close of one stanza the High School battled hard but to no avail - Good playing by Morrisseau and Mahony. Woonsocket 41 - De LaSalle 71 Final home game - Crusaders scored early and often - Capt. Morrisseau led the Villa Novans in a last quarter spurt in which they outscored the opponents. With only four seniors - Captain Roger Morris- seau, John Mahoney, Walter Romblad, and Dick Desrosiers - graduating, the squad will have a nucleus of partially experienced performers in Suf- foletto, Buttach, Marrah, Caslowitz, Cook, and Jacobs. To our new coach, Mr. Enright, we wish success in the coming year. Row 4: M. Messier, M. Messier, R. Jalbert. Row 3: W. O'Duy, E. Aubin, R. Grenon, T. Becea, E. Serafin, R. Dupont. Row 2: B. HOCKEY Woonsocket High School's hockey team, coached by Wilfred Lavallee and Marcel Peloquin, skated through a successful season. They finished seventh in the Rhode Island Interscholastic Hockey League, and although they were definitely underdogs in the majority of their games, they never stopped trying and fought heroically. Losing only Co-captains Dick Dubois and Ed Archambault, Tom Becea, and Frank Kilcline via graduation, the Villa Novans definitely have the potential power and experience to be a top team next year. Some of the returning players will be Dan Panu, Bob Mei, Bob Bedard, Bernie Lavallee, Earl O'Dell, Art Sabourin, Len Hodgson, and Earl Pouliot. Good luck next year, Mr. Lavallee.
