WOONSOCKET ENIOR HIGH The Spirit of '43 EPTEMBER 9, 1942 began at the Woorsocket High School. The world was in the midst of a great stormfWorld War ll The nations shuddered at the thought of the darkening war clouds, but from within our school where the light still burned brightly, we peered into the darkness with the confidence that our light would brighten the surrounding scene. This light is symbolic of the spirit ever present in the hearts of all of us. Repref sentative of this glowing spirit are the numerous tasks which are daily being performed, with willing hearts and hands, to aid the war effort. Our boys are preparing themselves for the great struggle which confronts us by dlligently studying advanced physics, solid geometry, trigonometry, and algee bra. Mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are skills also acquired by Woonsocket High youths, while commane do training provides a physical fitness program for our boys. lndustrious girls sew earnestly to help Red Cross for they believe that proper clothing may save lives. We have all worked ardently and cheerfully in the scrap metal and key campaigns. We have offered our serv- ices in the rationing of various com- modities. Yes, even our religious education classes tend to win this war through teaching tolerance and brotherly love. With the support of such an enviable spirit, the light of liberty can and will continue to shine forever. STEPS T0 KNOWLEDGE
