Amazed I unconscrously backed away' The phys1cs puprl calmly went on about h1s work bl1 s fully unaware ot the reason lor my sudden departure I was baffled' At the close ot the pe rod I learned from Mr Gas pard M Savarla Woonsocket Hrghs sole physlc 1n structor about general routlne Two perlods of each week are reserved for the conductmg ot countless IH terestrng experlments Durlng the remamlng three perrods the students are pleasantly lectured and IH HIS llttle nngle was run mg through my m1nd as my hand touched the knob on the Chemrstry Laboratory door I opened 1t reluctantly ex pectrng to be greeted by loud explosrons and terrllylng screams Instead a very orderly scene met my tear lul gaze The amateur chemlsts were hned up aga1nst two long tables I1sten1ng to Mr Mur phy the mstructor grve drrectrons for the day s experlment I was asslgned to a partner and went to work I learned that H O IS water and that H S04 IS sulphuric ac1d whrch explarned the grlm 1mpl1cat1on of the nngle As the perrod ended I asked my partner Does anythmg serrous ever happen when you re worklng wtth chem1cals'9 The answer was an emphatxc Oh no' but I wonder why he crossed h1s Irngers' CARAMBA ' ' Now rt can be told It was I v ho whrle lookmg lor water opened the gas Jets bw mrstake IH the Phvstcs Laboratory' Dros Mro' What excltement' All rules for tne preserva tlon of wrndow glass went unheeded as the w1ndows were hastrly flung open much to the rehet of the femlnme SCISHIISIS but nothma perlshed Only my prrde suffered shght pam formed ot the scrence ot energy namely phys1cs 'C IT S EASY IF 'iow arla
