Our sincere hope is that the thoughts and work which have gone into these pages will be a reminder of those memories in the future. With this thought in mind, we publish this edition of TWIN OAKS. w r 2 Principal’s JITessacje What will your role in life be? Each of you must choose what you would like to be and then prepare yourself to achieve this goal. Your school and teachers are preparing many of you for that future role, but they cannot fill the role for you. If you take advantage of your educational opportuni- ties, you should be able to achieve the goals to which you aspire. Dedication The Senior Class of 1965 is honored to dedicate this edition of the TWIN OAKS to those that have taught us, counseled us, challenged us, and in- spired us. Their work in the church and in civic organizations has been a selfless record of concern for others. Because of their sense of humor, their uncomplaining response to endless requests for information, their friendly warmth of personalities, their thoughtful words of encouragement, and their continuous examples of Christian character, the Senior Class dedicates its yearbook to Mr. and Mrs. James H. Joyce, Jr. There will always be the memory of these two to warm our hearts. 4 JKr. and JlCrs. tJames 3f. Joyce, Jr. Mrs. Ella Sue H. Joyce Wake Forest College Twelfth Grade Sponsor Mr. Algie L. We had long awaited this day; for, at last, we could change classes instead of looking at the same face all day. We started out in the eighth grade with Mr. Newman as captain and Mrs. Wood as guide. My fellow classmates and I felt as if we were discovering a new land. This year for the first time we elected officers and had our first real class party. The following officers were elected to start us off on our journey through high school: President, Judy Weaver; Vice President, Larry Lawless; Secretary, Darrell Worley; Treasurer, Alfred Turner; Reporter, Lane Pendleton; Parliamentarian, Freeda Turner. In our Freshman year thirty-two bright and angelic faces greeted our faithful homeroom teacher, Mrs. Moricle. We were really on the road to success. Now at last we could take part in school activities such as basket- ball, baseball, cheerleading, and various clubs. In the spring of 1961 we were quite surprised when one of our members, Judy Weaver, was chosen Miss Woolwine High. It was hard to believe that we were finally sophomores. But Mrs. Pilson soon made us realize this fact for she kept saying, You have only three more years so work a little more and try a little harder. We did, but we didn't miss out on any of the fun. We pulled into port with a new captain, Mr. Joyce. Again in the spring another member of our class, Evelyn Mabe, was chosen Miss Woolwine High. Our junior year was the best ever. With the help of Mrs. Joyce we slaved over bake sale after bake sale trying to raise money for our Junior-Senior trip to New York. And, believe me, it was really worth all of our efforts, for who can forget the crazy little things that happened. I'm sure each senior has his own special memory of the trip. Our class must be filled to the brim with winners, for in the spring of our junior year Betty Rorrer was crowned Miss Woolwine High. And here at last we have arrived at our senior year with a feeling of sad- ness and regret and yet a bit of excitement at wondering what life has in store for us. Some of us have made definite plans for the future while others are still undecided. Already this year many things have happened--college boards, Senior Day, planning the annual, class rings, and ordering caps and gowns. When we see seniors of yesterday returning, it makes us aware that we too are approaching that time when we will be alumni of the school. Our trip has been a good one. School has been a challenge, and there has been fun with it all. And I'm sure as we look back in years tp come that we will feel an emptiness that no other experience could leave us. To our undergraduates, the Juniors, we leave our senior privileges, responsibilities, dig- nity, and these priceless items: I, Randolph Adams, leave to Junior Harbour my beautiful legs--to attract attention at ball games. I, Linda Cockram, leave my quiet ways to Johnnie Wood. I, Lonnie Dillon, leave to Randolph Morrison my thrill for basketball, knowing he will raise the score at every game. I, Bonnie Foley, leave to Fern Prillaman my mixed up ways, hoping she can figure them out. I, Leon Harbour, leave my knack to act my age, not my IQ, to William Lackey, knowing he will always try. I, Linda Harris, leave my hard work on the Annual to Christene Profitt, knowing she will carry on next year. I, Ruby Harris, leave my ability to slice oranges to the lucky person who is the girls' bas- ketball manager next year. I, Betty Hylton, leave my ability to slide in doors to Freeda Bowling, hoping she doesn't land as hard as I did. I, Christine Hylton, leave my knack of sticking my foot in my mouth to Elizabeth Wade, hoping hers tastes better. I, Shirley Hylton, leave my ability to get along with everyone to Ann Boyd. I, Doris Lawson, leave my ambition to finish school to Marie Hylton. I, Charles Love, leave my yearning for romance to Doug Ingram. I, Evelyn Mabe, leave my giggles to Margaret Conner, hoping she doesn't get thrown out of class. I, Betty Rorrer Peal, leave to Carol Booth my Better Homes and Garden Cook Book — that is if she's planning to get married. I, Cordelia Pendleton, leave to Joyce Hylton my dreams of getting along without studying— hoping her dreams come true. I, Lane Pendleton, leave my dear ole piano stool to Frances Hutcherson. I, Ronnie Pilson, leave my ability to get-by with mischief to Alfred Brammer. I, Cynthia Price, leave my crazy ways to Bonnie Boyd in hopes that she can cause as much trouble as I have. I, Ann Rakes, leave to Carolyn Nolen my ability to foul out of ball games—hoping she doesn't use it very often. I, Bobby Rakes, leave to William Midkiff my super intelligence. I, Danny Rakes, leave my worn out typewriter to anyone who gets it. (It's trained to pass five-minute timed writings.) I, Elmo Scott, leave my thrill for driving fast to Jimmy Dillon—hoping he doesn't get caught. I, Judy Shough, leave all I have learned from all the books I have never read to all those who never study. I, Mary Smith, leave my jokes to Peggy Harris and hope she will get as many laughs as I did. I, Alfred Turner, leave my gentleman-like ways to Bobby Lawless. I, Eunice Turner, leave to Wanda Jones those things which I expect to miss after gradu- ation. I, George Turner, leave my quietness in study hall to Phillip Pilson, hoping he makes bet- ter progress. I, Judy Weaver, leave my talkativity to Joan Conner—one reminder—life is so short when one has so much to say. I, Darrell Worley, leave my ability of winning money to Elwood Rorrer--I mean losing money on the World Series.
