Volume XI Annual Publication of The Senior Class Woolwine High School Co-Editors Janie Moran - Mavin Harris Advisor jr- Dedication Our school is composed of many things: the buildings which show the determination of the citizens to furnish a place for the young people to learn; the walls which are witnessing the joys, achievements, sorrows, and disappointments, the best years of a youth's life; the flag that is forever faithfully flying over our school, constantly reminding us each day of our freedom and our many opportunities as an American; the Twin Oaks that symbolize the strong bond of our school with the students, faculty, and the community; the dedicated teachers who put forth their greatest effort to train our minds and character--their never ending battle to better mankind; the playground that provides for us a place to participate in games together, have loads of fun, and above all a place to practice good sportsmanship; the stu- dents coming together to learn, laugh, play, and cry, learning to live with others, and to re- spect the opinions of others, and their main goal—learning to achieve. To Woolwine High School, our second home, friend, and guiding light, we the Senior Class of 1963, proudly but humbly, dedicate this edition of TWIN OAKS. As we were wiping the dust from the aged mirror, we thought we caught a glimpse of our- selves. We looked again, and sure enough, there we were in the year 1973 working in Washington, D. C. as private secretaries to ex-President Kennedy's third cousin who is now Secretary of the Exterior. The next person we saw was Betty Harris, an artist, who was painting the portrait of Caroline Kennedy. Just then a jet plane came into view. It went into a high climb and we could see the pilot very clearly--Douglas Shelton. His brother, Bobby Shelton, was his co-pilot and their great friend, Bruce Pendleton, was the navigator. The picture grew hazy but we soon saw why. It was foggy London and Martha Jane Griffith, the new Foreign Ambassador to England, was walking down the street toward the Embassy. We waved Hello to her, but evidently she didn't see us. The fog lifted and we could see beautiful Rome. There Jean Dillon was a famous hair stylist and Linda Boyd was her model. They looked quite happy, so we hurried on to the next scene which was Florida. In a little white house by the sea we saw Eva Haden. She has been there ever since eloping from high school with her secret admirer. The scene changed again and this time it was one of crowds, hot cars, greasy mechanics, and dust. We were just in time to see Rex White's substitute driver, Leonard Turner, win the World's Championship Go-Cart Race. The greasy me- chanic we mentioned was none other than Clinton Conner. Then we saw Broadway and who was there but Larry Martin and Judy Pendleton. They have their own T. V. show, and Judy even has her own piano player. Roger Haden was there, too. He was running his own escort service. Wait— still another Woolwine Celebrity. Craig Clark as the Best Squirrel Skinner of 1973! By this time it was quite dark in the little shop and we could barely see, but finally we made it out. It was Mavin Harris, carpenter of the class, head of his own Construction Company. June Elgin was his secretary, accountant, and typist. Janie Moran was attending the wounded carpenters. Nancy Harbour Patricia Philpott 50 Elementary Faculty Miss Pearl Thomas R. W. Your school has attempted to give you a basic education on which you can build a suc- cessful future. Your graduation from this school should be the beginning of your becoming a truly educated person, not the termination of your education. It is my hope that the edu- cation which you received at Woolwine High School will be the foundation upon which you will build a full and rich life. I want to extend to each of you my best wishes for the future. James H. Joyce, Principal 62 Last Will And Testament We the Class of'63 leave fond memories within the walls of Woolwine High School to brighten the days of those to follow us. I, Nancy Harbour, leave all my good jokes to Bruce Griffith in hopes he will get as many laughs out of them as I did. I, Douglas Shelton, leave my worn out gear shift to Lonza Hatcher. I, Linda Boyd, leave my ability to roll my big blue eyes at all the boys to Dorothy Terry. I, Craig Clark, leave my wonderful sense of humor to Marvin Rorrer. We, Betty Harris and Judy Pendleton, leave our worn out voices to Linda Wright in hopes that she will be able to get some more cheers out of them. I, Roger Haden, leave my way with the girls to Walter Haynes. I, Jean Dillon, leave my neat ways to Mary Jane Scott. I, Mavin Harris, leave my knack of raking the referees over the coals to Larry Belcher in hopes that he gets less fouls called for it. I, Eva Haden, leave my giggles to Etta Mae Hatcher hoping she has as much fun as I did. I, Larry Martin, leave my musical talent to Faye Hutcherson. I, June Elgin, leave my ability to black my knees and skin my knuckles tackling the for- wards to Joyce Conner. I, Bobby Shelton, leave my ability to be quiet in study hall to Gordon Bowling hoping that he will try it. I, Janie Moran, leave my knack of sticking my feet in my mouth to Ruth Ann Wood with hopes that her's taste better. I, Leonard Turner, leave my ambition to be a race car driver to George Nolen. I, Patricia Philpott, leave my ability to daydream in class to JoAnn Rorrer in hopes that her dreams will come true. I, Martha Griffith, leave my ability of knowing when to talk and when to be quiet to Janice Harbour. I, Clinton Conner, leave my dependability to Aylees Belcher. I, Bruce Pendleton, leave my typewriter to Elaine Scott. Bright, new horizons await today’s students . . . new technologies . . . new medicines . . . even the moon and what- ever lies beyond. How far today’s students go in this space age depends partly on their imagi- nation but primarily on their training. Conquering new horizons will demand more of today’s graduates — more knowledge, more skills, more training and more specialization. Our Free Enterprise system, with its high living standards, gives everyone an opportunity to “shoot for the moon” in any field.
