CLASS PROPHECY This week my job as reporter on the New York Times required me to write an article on what a typ- ical senior class of ten years ago is doing today. The assignment was a rather easy one--1 simply wrote on the Class of '59, Wool- wine High School. It was really a pleasure to interview all my old classmates and find out what they were doing. The first place I went was to see Clyde Thomas here in New York. Last fall he pitched the Yankees through to another suc- cessful year. Next I visited Betty Jane Wood, who had taken Della Streets place as Perry Mason's private secre- tary. Betty and Perry had just finish- ed covering a case of LOVELL VS NAACP. It was Maynard Lovell- still fighting intergration. From there I went to the Arthur Murray Dance Studio where Larmie Pendleton was teaching a dance class. She asked me to accompany her to a fashion show at Olin Pendle- ton' s new department store. When we arrived there the first model we saw was Thelma Harris. She is still a strong supporter of the sack dress. I managed to see Annie Agee while she was in New York to ap- pear on Queen For A Day . She is now Mrs. Merrion Hylton and her home is in Woolwine. I decided it was about time to go down to Virginia to interview the classmates who are still in and around Woolwine. I went to the airport to catch a plane and there I saw Barbara Morrison, a stewardess for Atlantic Airlines, with whom I was flying. I got off the plane at Norfolk, Va. and visited Wanda Marshall and her sailor husband. While I was there she just happened to turn on the Tv and there real as life was the great comedian Moir Ingram. I left Norfolk and continued my journey to Woolwine. On my arrival there I inquired my way through the bustling town to the home of Ilene Thomas, but to my disappointment I was told that she and her husband were on aworld cruise and I would be un- able to see them on this visit. I did see Paul Foley, President of the AACP (Association for the Advancement of Card Playing). I called a taxi to take me to Radford. I thought the driver looked familiar. It turned out to be Nancy Turner. I got to Radford College just in time to see Kyle Walker before he went to class. He is a Mathematics professor there. I flew from there to Texas where I saw Gerald Wright. He has been in the news quite a bit lately. It seems that oil has been discover- ed on his large ranch. I hopped a plane from there to Hollywood to see Darnell Adams. She is co-starring with Elvis Presley in his new movie, High School Rock. Will those two ever grow up ? It seems that each member of the Class of '59 is successful and happy in his chosen career. Judy Conner n
