Under the direction of Mr. Caldwell, the Woodway High concertband performedin a variety of programs. The first major performance of the concert band was at the Winter Concert where they made their first appearance in their new concert uniforms. Selections for their first musicale ranged from the lively march, Men of Ohio , to Haydn Wood's Manx Tone Poem, Mannin Veen . The Warrior concert bandjoined the other high school bands in District 515 for a pops concert on March 2, 1969. The combined bands played four tunes, each chosen by a conductor. Mr. Caldwell chose an ar- rangement of I've Got Rhythm which feattmed the percussion. Preparing for the Spring Concert and the high school band contest occupied the rest of their practice time. Stage band, an extracurricular ensemble, added that extra beat to the music department. Their practices one or two times a week prepared them for their per- formances at the Winter and Spring Concerts, PTSA meetings and many other programs. Since Woodway does not have its own orchestra, in- terested students playedwith the Edmonds High School orchestra. Debbie Winchar, Karen Hargraves, Nancy Zevenbergen, Diane Avery, Vicki Anderson and john Holt, Woodway students, performedwith the Edmonds orchestra.
