losses in non-Ieague tilts 'Sept. 6-The Bulldogs opened the season at Hamilton Garfield. Woodward scored rather easily against the perennially overrated Griffins and led 14-6 at halftime. Two Woodward fumbles at the outset of the second half were quickly turned into scores by the Griffins. The deflated Buildogsi collapse was complete, 42e'l4. Sept. 13hlnvading the lair of the Elder Panth- ers, the Bulldogs confronted the Cincinnati Enquirer's player of the year, Larry Parker. Parker was good, scoring 16 points, but Wood- ward's Jeff Josefovsky was equally exciting with his three scoring strikes through the air. Al Banks scored twice and Ed Shuttlesworth was strong on the sweeps, but Woodward lost 30-18. Oct. TBeResembling a Sunday sandlot contest, Woodward and Taft spent most of the after- noon in a tug of war between the twenty yard lines. Regular QB Josefovsky whose broken collarbone had healed made his first appearance in five weeks in the final minutes of the game, but he could not break the 0-0 deadlock. Oct. 24-Princetonls Vikings, led by Doug Pur- cell's three touchdowns, ran up 26 points in the first half. A hard, driving cold rain in the second half cooled off their attack as they settled for a 32-0 trouncing of Woodward's battered Bull- dogs. ' 'tThe tradition ofwinning at Woodward makes losing harder to take You wanra keep up with the records of the group before you. Cettin'beat by outside teams like Princeton and Elder is bad enough, but losing to somebody in the league is worse, 'cause you're playing against guys you've known for a long time And when you do play a lousy game, like we did against Taft, y0u almost feel like quittin'. You know you're a better team and all you get out ofa game like Taft is a tie. And to me a tie is a loss. it tPete Murdock
