OFFERS CHALLENGE, VALUE Woodward of 1966 refiects an era of constant change. New administrators, a handful of new teache ers, and many new students have entered Woodward in the past year. Yet the high standards of excel- lence achieved by former students and administrators stand as unchanging as the proud statue of William Woodward. Although this school has known many brilliant students and distinguished teach- ers, the essence of its heritage, that which gives it immeasurable value, is the experience of living shared by all Woodward students. Every student participates in the diverse traditions of Woodward life, whether he is running to tackle a halfback or running to win a class office; whether he is manag- ing to get straight As or just managing to wake up in the morning; whether he is winning a writing award or winning the respect of a new friend; whether he is learning the inverse square of twelve or learning how to climb a rope. Woodward combines the personal dramas of several thousand people; their trials, triumphs, and treasures are indeed a vital and constant part of schoollife. The statue of William Woodward faces the rising sun; his hand extends toward the horizon. In the distance, beyond this symbol of Woodward5s traditions, lies the challenging horizon of the future. To reach this horizon, to fuliill the promises of life, is the achievement of the mature, truly educated person. Such fuIiillment, never Without its trials and always with its triumphs, is a continued treasure. An exhausted athlete has met the challenge. i F t
