DICATIONANDINMEMORI TO WINTON L. MOELLER Mr. Winfon L. Moeller has apfly been called fhe founder of New Woodward High School. He was The man who successfully Trans- planfed fhe cenfury-old Woodward fradifion in an ulfra-modern build- ing af Seymour Avenue and Reading Road. Mr. Moeller's sfory is one of faifh and inspirafion. The sfory began in l9l9 when Mr. Moeller enfered Woodward as a freshman. Following a I922 graduafion he sfudied liberal arfs af Wiffenberg college, fhen he refurned fo Woodward in l927. There, as a feacher and baskefball coach, Mr. Moeller recognized his purpose in life-fhe guidance of Woodward youfh. Named principal of his alma mafer in l95O, he remained There unfil his unexpecfed deafh on Augus+23, 1959. ln his years of dufy, Mr. Moeller was a man of greaf vigor: offen his lighf burned lafe as he soughf answers fo school problems. He was a man of organizafiong his well-lcnoffed fie, his elaborafe files, his clean desk-each was a mark of efficiency. He considered organizafion indispensable fo his purpose, anyfhing ouf of place he felf would delay him. Connecfed wifh This characferisfic efficiency were sincerify and devofion. ln embodying fhese qualifies Winfon L. Moeller creafed an air of dignify and honor fhaf made associafion wifh him and Wood- ward High School a rich experience. These qualifies also made him an educafor and adminisfrafor of rare abilify-firm buf wise, demanding buf pafienf, hard-worlcing buf fun-loving. Cerfain successes and achievemenfs affesf fo fhe effecfiveness of Mr. Moeller. During his fenure as principal Woodward began offering college-level courses in English and mafh. And in his sixfh year as firsf cifizen of Woodward fhe school reached anofher peak-almosf 737, of her graduafes were confinuing fheir eclucafions affer high school. Such were fhe life and achievemenfs of a man who, as said by Wendell Pierce, Superinfendenf of Schools, leff his life as an example of devofion fo dufy, concern for man's welfare, and faifh in youfh-- fhus in fhe fufure. Woodward does nof wish Mr. Moeller's fireless efforf fo go unrewarded, and, fhough fhe sound is disproporfionafe fo his deeds and silenf fo his ears, 'lhe school exfends fo him ifs warmesf Thank you. By passing on whaf fhey have gained by experience. and by informing us of fhe wonderful advan- fages of lcnowledge, fhey imparf and develop in us fhe desire TO LEARN. These our feachers a'mosf equal us in fheir enfhusiasm for life. They ioin us in vigorous acfivifies, cheering luslily af games, joining in fhe humor and hilarify of a Friday affernoon pep rally. They have similar hopes, inferesfs, and hobbies. As sponsors of clubs, as coaches, as advisors fhey encourage us fo develop our falenfs and fo have fun in fhe fields of learning fhaf inferesf us. Nurfuring our ambifions in a vasf world, fhey counsel us in fhe creafive and hopeful ideas which make if rewarding for us TO LIVE. Knowing fhe need for firm sfandards, warm hearfs, and faifhful dedicafion, our feachers implanf in us a correcf sense of values.
