PEASLEE, Page Eightvcn As our high school clays draw to a close, we, the members of the graduating class, have to consider the prospect of parting from the halls of our beloved school. This involves a multitude of tareweHs. Following the exampie of our prede- cessors, we, the class of nineteen hundred and forty-six, wish to make use 0t our Annual to extend to our principal, Dr. Leon D. Peaslee, a farewell which embodies our sincerest thanks for his untiring efforts in our behalf. Dr. Peaslee has ever been willing to aid us in the solution of our problems and has given unstintingiy of his time and energy. He has been a source of inspiration to us and we have ever been able to look to him for guiciance during the unsettieii times of our high school years. We are grateful for his wise counsel and sympathetic uncierstancling. Dr. Peaslees Firm belief in high scholarship, good Citizenship, and conscientious brotherhood has won for him the acimiration of an of us who have been fortunate enough to come under his inHuence. In this he is carrying on the Woodward Spiritnythe spirit 0t our school bequeathed to us by our founder. As we leave Woodward, our farewell to Dr. Peaslee includes a sincere hope for the future success 0t our principal and our school. Page Nineteen A a . V,.A-4 ,.. Civilization builds its hope for a better world on youth, on those who win he the citizens of more enlightened, more democratic countries, countries no longer houndeti hy barriers shutting out other citizens of one wortd. No thoughtful person can review the history of the bloodiest and most wide- spread of all wars without a feeling of pride and gratitude to the youthful men and women who savect our world and salvagetl civilization, too often at the cost of all their tomorrows. They had been trained and educated for their part in that titanic conHict and gloriously they hore witness to the tightness of their training. Education for youth's part in the world of tomorrow must be better than any system offered cluring past generations. It must be education for their place in a worth-state rather than as citizens of any one geographically limited country. Such education is a challenge to educators everywhere. The core of all future ctlucation must be training for citizenship in a world-stateF-tor world brotherhood, for a broader, deeper, fuller life, and for a more fruitful harvest through world- wide cooperation in every enterprise that enriches human life and dtgnifies the individual. But one task more remainsF-the task of acting as spokesman for my fellow classmates in their formal farewells to friencls at VVoodward High School. They have been not only teachers and advisors to us, but friends at times when we most needecl triencis. I am sure that the entire class ioins me in this. Short conversations, courteous sharing of party lines, being sure of your number before calling, and similar practices are essential to good telephone service. We in the telephone industry are Constantly striving to provide a high quality system to serve the needs of our community, but the degree of satisfaction the service affords depends much on how it is used.
