' W1 The Senior Class of Wooclwarcl High School presents this year-book as a rec- ord of the life livecl in the American way at Woonward High School, Cincinnati. 0. in Nineteen Hundrecl ami Forty-one. The history of Woodwarct High School and that of our country are closely intertwined. Founded through the gener- osity of William VVoodward as the first high school west of the Alteghenies, it has served its country for more than a century in peace and war. Woodward High School has always stood for the great American principles enunciated in the Bill of Rights a-' free- dom of speech. freedom of the press, religious freedom and the right of assembly. These principles inculcated at Woodward have inspired and guided its graduates and have enabled one of them, William Howard Taft, to occupy the subtime position of President of the United States. Woodward still is true to these principles. Nlore than ever, it believes in democracy and the American way of life. 1 I Tile present VVoodwnrd building is the fourth to stand on the same 13101 01 ground. T119 first building was opened in 1851. In 1841 it was en1arged through 1119 addition 01 another story. The third building. a magnificent Gothic structure, was built in 1853 and gave way to the present edifice in 1910. We admit ttmt we regretted to have N111 Arthur Jones leave us; we had grown accustomed to the fine mild-mannerect gentleman. 1n the course ot the year. how- ever, we have learned to love and respect, equally. our new principal. We have been impressed with his sense of fair play and his thorough scholarship. We enjoyed tits tectures in the auditorium and admire his knowledge of outdoor life and nature lore. We feel that Dr. Peastee is a valuable acquisitiort tor Woodward High School and that he is, in every way, worthy to take his place in the long illustrious line or Woodwards principals. We Feel that he possesses that human tnSigtit and sympathy which Wittiam Woodward might expect of one who is destineot to guide our school in the spirit ot the Founder. We are proud, Dr. Peastee, to be the first class to graduate under your leadership. Page EIPUPH :1 wwpew WW .- .-..S a THE DAHLM MAN 9 D u Mame QED y: .. IS THAT AN HMA. CHECK? Each year we are asked to say a few words to the departing Seniors. We do this gladly, even though we do not lilce to see our riends leave. On Elle other lland, we would not detain them. even if we could. It would not be best. How- ever. we do give to l'hose. wlio are about to leave our school. our most sincere wishes for great success in He. VVe expect to hear, at some future day. that a goodly number of Wfoodwardiles ol the class of !941 have reached Elle pinnacle of success in their chosen life work. We are living in troublous times. The Annual Staff is the group of Woodward students to whom the Senior Class entrusted the production of its year book The energy they displayed. coupled with their willingness to cooperate, contributed much to the success 0f the publication. To Albert Haetner, the editor. and Robert Geiger, the business manager. tell the burden of the work. and to them belongs the honor and thanks for its suce cessful accomplishment. IVIonroe Pinkelton deserves much Credit for his fine photography. Bliss Clark was our art adviser, and a of the page arrangements and art work were under her supervision. To her and to NIL von der Halben the Annual is deeply inclebteclt As a special feature. the Annual presents snapshots of Dr. Peaslee and Mr. Cramer. Some or these were deliberately purloined From the family album by our sleuth. Our unique divisional pages were conceived and clevetoped by Rose Setenski. Responsible for last year's plaster carvings. she again gave freely of her time and talent this year. The Annual also wishes to acknowledge the zeal of Frank Setters whose activity in the financial matters connected with the Annual earn him special mention. His record ticket-sening will be long remembered. Tice Salute to the Flag I pledge allegiance to the Hag ot the United States of America, and to the republic for whichit stancts- one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all The Star-Spangled Banner Oh, say, can you see, by the dawrfs eaxly light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilightts last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro, the perilous fight Get the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets, red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Chorus Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave Oter the land of the free and the home of the brave? Oh, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the warts desolation! Blest with victtry and peace, may the heaWn-rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. t Then conquer we must, when our cause it is iust, And this be our motto: ttln God is our trust? Chorus And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave Oter the land of the free. and the home of the brave. Benediction .......................... Rev. Edwin A.
